I didn't know it was doing this until I enabled it to notify of intrustion attempts and such.

My DSL modem goes straight to the ethernet port at the back of my computer.

Look in your Firewall Activites, Firewall - Network and Connections and Intrusion Prevention logs. I don't think this is a rule but a IPS flagged event but the logs will show.

Also, are you wired to your DSL modem directly or through anything else (some people put a wireless router inbetween the computer and the DSL modem)? Have you had any other problems with your system?

One solution is to reset your firewall rules to the default set:

Goto (this in NIS2009) Setting> Internet Settings> Smart Firewall> Advanced Settings> Firewall Reset> Reset> Yes.

Isn't there a way to fix it without resetting the firewall? That's overkill if you ask me.

Do you have a bunch of custom rules?

Message Edited by dbrisendine on 04-18-2009 06:22 PM

Another question (sorry didn't ask earlier) is what did you have before NIS was installed?

You also said earlier it seems like NIS was blocking "ever since I installed it"; is 'it' the software (NIS) or your modem?

My 2-Wire gateway was doing the same thing. It was getting blocked every 20 seconds for a few days. I phoned my ISP who provided the gateway and complained bitterly. It stopped. Norton is treating a rather insistent contact from the DSL as an intrusion and rightly so. Norton isn't doing anything wrong.
