Norton Tool Bar in Firefox 3.5 final

I remember Norton Tool Bar had big identity safe problems when Firefox 3.0 came about. Now before I upgrade to the just released Firefox version 3.5 I want to be sure that Norton will not run into those kind of problems again. Feedback from anyone who has already tested Norton Toolbar under Firefox 3.5 is highly appreciated.:smileyhappy:

I know the Solution - go and buy NIS 2010 ;-)

I guess they wont update it since the next Release - remember - we are not talking about GData or Kaspersky. It is still Syman$ec ....

I agree that there wont be a compatible toolbar released for Firefox 3.5 and it seems highly likely as stated above we will be forced to buy/upgrade to NIS 2010.

Hi Papageitaucher,

Are you using Norton Internet Security 2009?. Since FF3.5 was released after NIS 2009, there may be some compatibility issues. In case of any issues, Symantec would release the patch when required. You can get the patches through the Live update. So I request you to run the Live update (from the NIS main window) and reboot your system and check.Please let us know if you need any help in this regard. Regards,Karthik

@Karthik_Swamy is this a Joke? There is still no Patch for Firefox 3.5 at NIS 2009 and the Toolbar is still invisble at 3.5.

What are you waiting for? There where Month of Betas and RCs of FF 3.5 where Symantec has had the change to test it and work on it.

mozilla has not announced the final release - but it's available on their servers for download....either way like with all RC it's not beta - therefore the code doesn't really change - we should have a working NIS toolbar

Karthik_Swamy are you kidding me? there's no patch available, the toolbar isn't compatible with ff 3.5 therefore there's no way for us to check for issues! I hate when people just post before checking lol

I checked a few hours ago and they were still offering 3.0.11 and 3.5 as RC(3), but that seems to have changed now.

I've been trying the various Betas and RCs and they've all been very stable, though several of my extensions still weren't updated as of a few hours ago. That, of course, includes the "Norton Toolbar".

I'm off to update. We'll see...

I also raised the issue a few days ago in another thread but sadly I agree with the comments above that the RC versions have been out for quite a while and they have no patch/support to get the Norton Toolbar working on Firefox 3.5. And sadly this is my default browser and I have no use for IE :( .

Firefox only has over 20% of web browser market share...I guess Symantec/Norton does not feel that this is siginificant enough to update their toolbar in a timely fashion...unbelievable!

The Norton addons don't work in Firefox 3.5, but they won't break 3.5 as long as you don't force them to be enabled. They are disabled automatically by default.

You should probably re-enable Firefox's built in anti-phishing and anti-malware protection since Norton Toolbar disables them when it is installed. As such without the Toolbar, Firefox is defenseless. They can be re-enabled in the Security options for Firefox 3.5.

I do agree though that a Firefox 3.5 compatible Norton Toolbar should have been out weeks ago since Firefox 3.5's interface has basically been frozen for at least a month. It also shouldn't require a NIS 2009 update since the addons are stored in separate folders in the Norton data directory. The addons should be able to be updated by themselves without requiring a new version of NIS 2009.

Hi all,

Firefox 3.5 was finally made available today. We have a couple defects that we had to wait for the release version before we could fix. We're going to make a couple changes and test with the final release of Firefox 3.5 to ensure the compatibility issues we discovered were indeed corrected.

There should be another update on this later on today with additional status on Firefox 3.5 compatibility.
