Subscription Renewal Question

When my subscription is automatically renewed will the 3 PC count start over based on the PCs in use at the time or will a PC that I no longer use always be counted towards my 3 PC's?

Hi, car825,

The Automatic Re-Newal will be "stuck" to your Product Key, which means, any computer that you put your Product Key in to will have the same "Remaining Days" as the computer you first entered that Product Key on. Does this answer your question?

No eflection on floatin red but I think he may have misinterpreted your question.

He is correct in stating that the clock count down starts for a subscription when you install on the first PC of a multi PC set and that applies to a first time as well as to a renewal.

But I'm not positive that when you renew what had been installed on 3 PCs but is now only going to be used on 2 PCs that the central database counts down one PC and leaves you with a spare installation you can make.

If it does not then when you remove an installation from a computer all you have to do is get in touch with Customer Support and they can remove one PC from your records there and so allow you to go ahead with a third installation (that would be flagged as a 4th otherwise)

I am pretty certain that this is the position but I may be wrong! So I'll flag this thread for one of the Symantec Staff -- names in red -- to clarify and then we will be sure.

Or of course you can contact Customer Support yourself and ask them since they deal with all subscription matters while here we deal with the technical ones.

Thanks for the additional information. Right now I don't need the extra activation. I had been using a single laptop, so there were two activations left. Then out of the blue my laptop started giving me trouble so I bought a new one. I may try to fix the old one in which case I would still use the activation. But the process got me thinking about how the auto renewal worked when you change PCs. If it assumes that your PCs last forever, well that's not the best approach.

I think I understand the situation, but I'd like to clarify:

- Computer A, B, and C have NIS 2009 installed, computer D does not

- Computer C is not used anymore, and is stashed in a closet somewhere (OK, that part I'm making up:smileywink: )

- On Computer A, the subscription is renewed (either manually or automatically)

Did I capture the situation correctly? And your question is whether the "up to 3 PCs" limit for the license is still applied to computers B and C, even though you don't use one of them? Yes it is.

However, if you want to install on Computer D, just uninstall from one of the other computers and then proceed with install on Computer D. If you have any problems, contact our customer support. They can resolve these types of problems easily.

Thanks for clarifying -- I was just not sure enough on whether or not there was even a possibility that uninstalling from one of the three had any effect, or even a possibility of affecting, the record of how many installations had been used.
