EDIT: I just notice that your code has a dash. You mentioned that your original code contained underscores. Was that changed by your program? Which is correct?

Originally, I had copy pasted the code into a small box that wrapped it's text around when you came to the end. I think the program added the dash... almost like when you come to an end of a paragraph line and you do this... "ex-

ample"...

So when you didn't see it initially, I went to another area that the user can add continuously to the box and it goes on and on... so I went to the small box, copy pasted with the dash, into the continuous box.

does it matter? Should I go back and take out the dash?? The original problem was the .html file name... it had underscores and dashes which was the problem, not the content.

Let me know if I need to take that dash off... I'm so close now to that lovely green circle with the checkmark! :smileyhappy:

Thanks Phil!

Jennifer

Hello. Yes, I am trying to get my site ownership verified through Norton Safe Web. I am using ShowIt as my site builder program as well as web hosting.

Here is the information I've been told on their forum after I've copy and pasted the information I received from Norton Safe Web:

Response #1 from Mr. Nick:

Hi Jennifer!
That's going to be really hard with those underscores in the file name, as Showit turns them into dashes. You typically create a text file and save it as a .html file and drag and drop this right into Showit to verify your site. However I'm not sure it will work for you with the underscores in the name of the page.

and Response #2 from Mr. Kevin:

Jennifer - Showit will change the "-" to an "_" but there is a good chance it will still work. These steps assume you don't already know how to create the .html file. I had no idea if you do so I figured I'd stick it in there.

Step 1: Open TextEdit (if Mac) or Notepad (if PC)

Step 2: Paste the file content into the document

Step 3: Save the document with the file name required. Note here that you will need to change the default File Format to be HTML. If you can't figure out how to do this just save the file as a .rft (Mac) or .txt (PC). Then rename the file by deleting the hold extension and put .HTML.

Step 4: In Showit upload the file just like you would an image file. It will load into your Media Library in the section called "Package".

That should be all you need to do. The file should now be viewable. If it is not then it may be a problem with the dashes.

Phil & mdoc7, I have done what Mr. Kevin had advised, but still does receive the "site verification failed, please copy the auth copy to your website's root directory" message.

Please help!

thank you,

jennifer

That's easier than what was said here.

Hello Jennifer,

This is the first time I have heard of a site builder program automatically changing the content of a file as you mentioned.

I checked the tutorial on their website, and I got some insight into the program, but I need to ask you a few questions before giving you suggestions.

1) On the left side of the interface, there is a tab labeled Pages which shows the layout of your site. It includes pages such as "Home", "About", "Contact", etc. Can you drag a file directly there and upload it?

2) Do you have the option to add meta tags such as "Keywords"?

Also, feel free to post the full address of your site in your next post and I'll check the source code to see if I can determine the proper option for you.

Thanks!

Hi Phil,

I cannot drag a file directly onto the "Pages" tab or any of it's sub tabs. ShowIt has a "media files" button that I click and select files from my hard drive that I would like in my site. From there I "publish to the web". This is the procedure I had to do for Google's site verification file.

Yes, I have the option to add meta tags such as "Keywords".

My website address is www.jenniferbrotchie.com

Thank you.

Hello Jennifer,

I am sorry for the delay in responding. I see from your source code, that you already have a number of keywords. Probably the easiest method would be to add the nortonsw authentication code to your keywords.

Use your site building program to edit your keywords. Copy and paste the File Content from your email registration, (the very long alphanumeric code) to the keywords tag on your main page. Be sure it is separated from the other entries with a comma.

Example: .... "keywords" content="wedding photographer, wedding photography, zp_4srd6nros..............u30fm24fy(Norton SW File Content is in blue text.)

Although this method will not allow for the automated verification, it should assist the Safe Web team in verifying your site.

Let me know when you have completed this step and I will check that the code is properly located and notify the Safe Web team.

I hope that helps.

Indeed, you have a unique website. It is an interesting effect to have it built upon flash content.

If it is alright with you, I would like to send you a Private Message regarding your site. Look for the icon in the upper right hand corner of any forum page.

Message Edited by Phil_D on 10-07-2009 11:11 PM

Jennifer

You don't have to worry about the HTML file name. The name is not required when using the meta tag method.

Just be sure that the alphanumeric content is exactly as presented in your email confirmation or from within the HTML file.

Ok, re-did it. Can you check to see if it's there?

Also, the ShowIt Help Forum will be interested in how I did this. would you suggest that I tell them to insert the content info into the keyword meta tag file- just as I did. Then from there, come to this forum and request verification?

WAHOO! It's there and it's lovely! Thanks for your help!

Would you suggest the members of my hosting come to this forum to request verification? It seems that they are all having the same problems as I was. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks again.
