The norton toolbar is not compatible with Sharepoints datasheet view. It causes errors when editing a rich text box and inserts black highlighting. We need to completely remove the toolbar from IE. Merely disabling the toolbar from the add-ons menu does not work. Please let us know how we can do this, otherwise, our entire organization will have to move off of Norton.

Thanks in advance!

-Charles

So, my version is 17.0.0.136. Here is a shot of the error. The norton toolbar causes a conflict with the sharepoint/office dll that controls the datasheet. After typing text in a rich text box, it highlights the text in black.I had to manually change the ones that are not highlighted in black.

epsilon212

Apologies there was a misunderstanding. When you said you need to remove not just the toolbar but "completely remove the toolbar ", I assumed that this is what you had done. I believe what you are now indicating is your desire to do so because you feel that disabling the toolbar is insufficient.

However, with respect, may I suggest that you are making a presumption in that you are presuming that the problem you are experiencing is because of the "toolbar" whereas it could quite easily be a consequence of another function within Norton, which is why yogesh_mohan proposals are entirely appropriate and should be tried.

As I write this I see on my 2nd screen that mdturner has just responded with another proposal to rename a file that might be "confidential IE plugin" (a guess) anyway, I hope that that works for you. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

This solution actually works and takes care of the problem, but you should actually keep the old name of the file and blank the contents else Norton replaces the file on reboot.

This is a big issue that Norton needs to address for the large group of people that are using Sharepoint and have Norton installed on their computers. Our entire organization has this issue, and it might be easier to remove Norton rather than trying to implement this work around. At the very least, Norton needs to make available the option of completely removing the toolbar.

Thanks!

That will disable all plugins that we have with IE. You could also try just disabling the NCO BHO, as that would more than likely be the cause if it was us causing this issue.

I'll respond if we need more information, or if we are unable to reproduce this issue in-house.

Hi Tim,

We did try disabling all three components from IE, but that does not work. The conflict still occurrs. The CoIEPlg.dll is still getting loaded even though it has been disabled through IE. Having the toolbar disabled (but still installed) does NOT do the trick.

The CoIEPlg.dll occurs on both Vista and Windows 7 and with Norton Internet Security Version 9 and 10 (all running IE 8). We have not tested XP.

Thanks!

-Charles

Message Edited by epsilon212 on 10-30-2009 11:38 AM
