Hi ridrid1, welcome to the Norton Community.

A slowdown can occur if you upgraded from NIS 2009 to NIS 2010, and the upgrade was not clean. Please read this document:

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20090917225207EN

You will probably have to uninstall NIS 2010 and reinstall it again. The document above will give you instructions on how to do this.

Message Edited by Yaso_Kuuhl on 11-04-2009 09:30 PM

A few weeks ago I recieved an e-mail inviting me to download and install a free upgrade to NIS 2010. Since I installed the upgrade my PC has become very slow when I first switch on my PC. I have carried out the usual check and I have the minimum files in my start up to aid boot up. But it is still very slow. I purchased 2009 because it was advertised as being a lot faster than previous versions. I wish I had not upgraded to 2010. Can anyone help?

Thanks for the link and info. I carried out the instructions and it made no difference. When I had NIS 2009 the programme was up and running within 15 seconds when I first open my desktop. Now it takes atleast 1 minute to open. I have not changed anything else in my start up. if anything I have removed programmes in order to try and speed things up.

I have not changed anything else in my start up. if anything I have removed programmes in order to try and speed things up.

I recommend you have "Early Load" checked in the Realtime AV Settings.

Also, one slow-down may be the program's attempt to update signature files right away. Have you run Live Update until there is nothing left to update? How fast your computer re-establishes its internet connection can be a factor. And it is possible, I suppose, that NIS did somehow affect those settings that relate to the connection. Someone more knowledgeable than I am would have to speak to that.

Another possibility could be the "reality factor". The "reality factor" here is that often the desktop presents the user with what seems like a totally functional desktop, but when you are click on something, nothing happens because in reality there is still loading and scanning taking place behind the scenes. What I have found with NIS2010 is that although the icon is one of the last to appear (often AOL is even later) in the Notification Area, when it does do so, I can really begin to use the computer. Previously, even when the NIS icon was early to appear, I still couldn't use the computer until the Notification Area was really filled.

Actually in my view nis 2010 is a little slower but has many great features.

Its sonar is good too.

Also its lightest out in market.

I would suggest u to bear some and stick with nis 2010.

Also check if ur early load is disabled by any chance, if yes, enable it for immediate running of nis 2010 as suggested by mijcar
