NIS 2010 & panda cloud antivirus coexist?

has norton or any adventurous user tried to see if these two apps can coexist harmoniously on one OS, like windows 7 64? duplication of efforts with liveupdate? can NIS 2010's av be disabled while panda cloud av is experienced in coexistence?

Even the Panda site itself recommends against running Panda Cloud alongside another security program:

No.... Also it is not recommended to run 2 different AV engines at the same time as they can conflict with each other.

Just because parts of it reside in the cloud, that does not change the basic rule that running two security programs simultaneously is a bad idea.

I second that.....if you need additional protection...you can try THREADFIRE or MALWARE BYTES. These 2 programs can run together with NIS2010 without problems.

I have been using them and so far they are excellent additional to my defense arsenal.

Free for Threatfire and MBAM.....paid version for both comes with AV programs...I think

Hi neigh-ho-ma,

As SendOfJive and Stu have said - running two security programs which both have realtime protection is not at all recommended. They can cause conflicts on your computer and interfere with each other's threat detection, rendering your computer more open to attacks instead of the opposite.

Malwarebytes is a very good on-demand program (=does not have realtime protection which will interfere with NIS 2010), and you can download it (free version) and save it from the link below to your computer:

www.malwarebytes.org

If you choose to install Malwarebytes, please remember that you have to update Malwarebytes manually - I recommend doing so at least twice a day since definition updates are released several times a day.

Yaso, are you saying that Sea Monster should not be running Threatfire because it has real time protection, even though it has been proven to be an excellent HIPS product, compatible with NIS and NAV, not to mention the fact that it is owned by Symantec?

I was thinking more of neigh-ho-ma, the original thread starter - and had Panda in mind - I should have been more specific :-)

Now, about Threatfire: Threatfire states in its FAQ section that it can be run alongside other antivirus programs:

Since no single application is currently foolproof, a layered defense provides the most complete protection. ThreatFire is the perfect complement to your existing antivirus, and will protect you between antivirus updates. It is fully compatible with most traditional antivirus programs, and can run side-by-side with these programs without conflict. Certain types of security software, such as a firewall or security suite, may require that you configure the other program to allow ThreatFire to run. This is typically accomplished in a few quick steps and our technicians are always available to help you out if you need assistance.

Now Panda, McAfee etc. are a different story...

Since, the thread drifted on to "Threatfire". Any comments....Is PC Tools Threatfire duplicating Norton Quorum / Insight or vice versa. The acquisition of PC Tools promoted the sharing of technology for both vendors. Threatfire ver 4.6 release date coincides with Quorum. Anyone from Symantec care to comment. May the technology / engines be similar to the extent that a conflict may occur. Granted, XYZ Security and Threatfire is OK...but, NIS10 and Threatfire??? Since, reading the info for Quorum. I've been thinking sounds like Threatfire.

Commentary - thoughts - opinions etc.................

as expected, the reasonable concensus is a resounding no to coexistence as presently constituted.

left unanswered is the question: can the antivirus portion of the NIS 2010 be turned off while the panda cloud antivirus is invited to play alongside all the other components of the NIS 2010?

the main panel has that one setting for antivirus on/off. is conflict inevitable? has any intrepid user tried this?

bjm_, a very good question. if there isn't a thread already on that, i believe one with the proper subject heading will garner the needed attention.

I have my NIS 2010 Playing very well alongside a squared anti malware,which incorporates "mamutu",their behavioral blocker.Have also used prevx,and malwarebytes' pro.All real timers.NIS seems to play well with everyone.

I don't think you can turn off all the scanning in NIS2010, even if the AV part is disabled. The SONAR and BASH and IPS along with Community Watch parts of NIS are always running is the Service is loaded. These may interfere with a different AV's scanners.

that was my thought when i purchased and installed NIS2009 and later upgraded to NIS2010. they are multi-faceted suites including firewall. so i turned windows firewall to manual. why have two? there may be interference.

found out from reading other threads that windows firewall should be left on automatic.

now i read a thread from mjicar that an enabled windows firewall may prevent the patch from updating my .136. oh, well!

i'll probably be an intrepid user soon, if i ever get my update. :-)
