Import Backup Destination in Ghost 14

Hi All,

I am trying to recover files and folders backed up through Ghost 14.0, I have been unsuccessful. I can find no recover point, but there are a ton of folders in the backup file such as fbfFiles_ob7, fbfFiles_obe, etc... So ghost put something there. I have tried the import backup destination thing, it says it was successful, but where do the files import to? I dont see any difference after the fact.

How can I retreive these files?

Hi Nas31, and welcome to the forum.

File and Folder backups do not create recovery points. The files/folders are saved in a series of files such as those you're seeing. In order to recover files, you'll need to follow the procedure explained in the user manual on pages 139-141, "Recovering files and folders by using file and folder backup data."

Hi Nas31,

You can import only the root folder which contains all the .fbf files. Norton Ghost will automatically search through the .fbf files in that folder.

While providing the search criteria, you can use wildcards such as *.doc or *.txt. If you want to find all the files in the backup, keep the search field blank and start the search. The search may take longer depending on the size of the file and folder backup. Wait for some time to complete the search.

Thank You Very Much. Question, this may be dumb, but where does the import folder go to? It did not give a option of what drive or folder to send the import folder.

Hi Nas31,

In this context, "import" doesn't mean actually moving or copying the folder; it simply means reading the contents of the folder. That step normally is not required as Ghost will by default recognize the storage location. It provides a way to tell Ghost to, in effect, refresh its memory if necessary.

Have you reviewed the section of the user manual that I mentioned previously? That gives a reasonably detailed explanation of how the recovery process works. In essence, you'll search (as vinod wrote) for the files that you want to recover. Once you've identified the files you want restored, you'll specify where you want them restored (normally to the original location), and the recovery will be completed.

Hi Brubaker,

Thank you for the response. I have read the guide several times, but it does tell anyhting about the problem I am having. I just imported the entire backup folder it's properties are (122GB, 30,633 Files, 135 Folders) after it imported the pop up said it imported successfully, but isee 0 files and folders on the Recover my files screen. So I am at a loss. If i go to the folder and try to open up the files manually I get the ED800012 Error:The internal file is invalid or damaged. I dont know how, its on a external drive, in which it is only used for backups. So I am at a standstill here.

Hi Nas31,

Okay, let's see if I understand what you're seeing. You've done the import and you're sitting at the Recover my files screen. Do you then run a search for the files that you want? The files are not going to be visible until you do that.

1. On the Home or Tasks page, click RecoverMy Files.

2. In the left pane of the RecoverMy Files window, select File and Folder as the
search method.

3. Do one of the following:

■ In the Find files to recover search box, type the whole name or partial
name of a file or folder that you want to restore, and then click Search.
For example, type recipe to return any file or folder that includes theword
recipe in its name, for example My Recipes.doc, Recipes.xls, Recipes for
Success.mp3, and so forth.

■ Click Advanced Search, type your search criteria, and then click Search.
To return to the standard search text box, click Basic search.

Also when I do a Search for files or folders in the backup Nothing comes up. I have tried things such as "My Documents, .txt, .doc my first name, my pictures, you name it, nothing is ever found.
