Has anyone been 'really' happy with NSW2008? I have had several problems using it. WinDoc which happens to be one of my favorite utilities, hangs up and won't even complete a scan.

Now I can't chat because the Sym Tech Support web controls also hang and will not install.

I can't uninstall/reinstall because my control panel for adding/deleting programs is also blank (obvious windows problem that normally could be fixed with WinDoc)

What say the kuro's for this popular program?

I'm still running NSW 2007 Pre on Win XP.

You might want to use the 2008 Norton Removal Tool from http://www.symantec.com/support/, or even restore your system to a pre-NSW-installation restore point if a reasonable one is available (don't forget to back up any important post installation documents before you restore).

Hi donahu1,

I'm sorry to hear that NSW2008 is not working properly and that you've encountered problems getting support through a failed controls installation. I believe that you can use One Click Support within Norton AntiVirus (click Help and Support in the program and click "Start Support Session". AutoFix will run and leave you at a page where you can initiate a Contact to support via Chat.)

The Tech Support tools should have an entry in Add/Remove programs - is that what was missing?

As to the problem you outline, can you tell us more about the computer this is installed on? Here are some details that would help:

What Operating System / Service Pack?
Are/were other Norton products installed (either now or previously)?
Are there any other behaviors or errors you are seeing with the OS or any programs on the system worth noting?

I am running XP SP2 and installed NSW2008P on a clean image
I tried chat through NSW help and got as far as installing "sym tech support web control" and it would hang
I then tried email tech support. They answered quickly and then Mohammed told me to contact MS. Sound like a copout? Maybe he also answers MS email too....Apparently it was too much for Mohammed to think about..
windows and NSW has been running smoothly since Jan '08 One-button scans have worked fine. Full scans also great, NSR runs backups as scheduled. And then all seemed to fall apart. I went to control panel to uninstall a program I had no use for. All I get is a blank page, no programs listed. So figuring it is an obvious windows problem, I pulled up my favorite utility WinDoc. It hangs up on"Program Integrity Scan: common program locations" I then thought of a work around and brought up "One button scan" No, that hangs immediately. I have a screen shot or two but noticed this forum won't except them. Now that would be a great addition, no?
Any help Matt would be appreciated.....

The 2008 NSW works flawless on my test boxes and at home and win doctor is my favorite also.:smileywink:

The blank add/remove programs window is an indication of a broken script host. Go to Microsoft and type "scripten" in the search then look for windows script 5.6 for windows XP and windows 2000.

If it asks for a reboot then it was broken, go ahead and reboot then try the add/remove and the scans to see if this helps. If the scan still does not work then run disk doctor 2 times and speed disk 2 times to ensure the drive is clean from bad sectors or cross linked files.

If the scripthost was broken I have to ask myself what else may be broken in the operating system as the scripthost is a Microsoft module. I would also be curious to find out what outher securty product or scanners may be on the system.

If you go to start then run and type "msinfo32" it will list on the right hand window total phisical memory, right below it is avalable memory I would also like to see this information if possible.

I gave up! I just could not solve this problem so I used ghost and used an older image. Thank goodness for Ghost. However, I still encountered problems running WinDoc. Maybe Mohammed was right and I needed to contact MS.

Instead, I used a basic XP SP2 image and installed Vista SP1. I also went to NIS2008 for now.
