The Comcast provide Norton Security Suite is customized for Comcast for its customers. It is not a retail Norton product and can not be updated through the Norton Update Center which only handles retail products. Updates for this Suite will be handled differently.

If I may add a bit more.

Not only is the COMCAST version modified for COMCAST users, but is also on a different schedule for upgrades. I'm talking about going from Version 3 (which COMCAST users presently have) to Version 4 (which paid subscribers to Norton already have available to them). COMCAST users will be updated to Version 4 at a future date that has not been determined yet.

Just in case you are wondering, all the updates as far virus definitions, firewall rules, etc are the same for COMCAST users as for those with paid subscriptions.

Good morning!

Yes, v4 is available for Comcast Norton Security Suite. Install method and instructions are the same as with the previous Comcast Norton Security Suite v3 release.

No, it is not required to run the NRT first.

If you are running NSSv3 and download/install NSSv4 from comcast, it will uninstall NSSv3, reboot, and install v4. There is no need to upgrade to NSSv4 if you are already running NSSv3 as your subscription will work just fine.

bmaslank: Hi one thing I learned while I tried cnss and perused the comcast forums...it really helps to uninstall comcast tool bar and any others. Also as yank said uninstall mcafee by running removal tool and not running more then one live security.

Also having a look at your start up programs with cnss software and eliminating what isnt needed on start up will help.

Hello bmaslank

Before trying an uninstall and reinstall of Comcast Norton Security Suite, I would recommend a full scan with the free versioin of Malwarebytes. If that comes out clean, then I would proceed with the uninstall of CNSS and the use of the Norton removal tool 2 times with a reboot after each run of it. Then get a fresh download from Comcast to install CNSS again.

You can get Malwarebytes from here.

Download the free version, install and update then run a FULL scan. After the scan completes you should post the logs back to this thread.

You can find Malwarebytes here

http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

It is a safer location to get the program from than malwarebytes themselves because some malware creators have large lists of sites that they block. Please be careful to down load the correct program ----the FREE version of MALWAREBYTES

(Thanks to Delph for providing the alternative site)

Please come back and let us know if Malwarebytes found anything. Thanks.

Molly M: I think you need to log into comcasts settings page and set your location but Im not sure. Online chat tech support with comcast will help you with that Im sure.

In any case a seperate post would be in order for this topic since it isnt a norton thing Id sign up and post to comcast discussion boards under security. Good luck.

But did you specifically use the removal tool ? As yank stated its really important you used the removal tool after basic uninstall. See yanks prev reply.

Also do you run any other live security ? Starting up with a low start up load helps too, not running to many programs on start up I mean that you arent using immediately.

Youre in good hands I will be on my way...good luck.

I just got NSS from Comcast. Prior to that, I had been using several separate products (Avira AV, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, etc.). I still do scans with SuperAntiSpyware, and it frequently finds a cookie by the name of "invitemedia[2].txt" that NSS does not detect.

Question is, is this a tracking cookie or not? If so, how does one get Symantec to add it to their definitions file?
