hi guys

just read the whole discussion since the last time I was here and there are a lot of different approachs to solve it.

I just tried something I didn't try before and that was the following:

i did not choose the 100 mb-partition (boot configuaration database) to be backuped up but only the system c and then it works! then i can choose the "recovery point set" -> what does that mean in respect to a solution to this problem?

how can this 100 mb easily be "repaired" so that I can again use the reveroy point set for both partitions?

I will definitely not reinstal the system etc which takes me another 2 days or whatever....

Hi

Some weeks ago I installed Norton ghost 15 and after having problems to create a new recovery point for a system image (it was not possible alhtough all jobs were deleted etc).Hence I reinstalled ghost and tried to make a new image backup task (via the taskmenu) but now i still i cannot create a new backup task since the function of creating a recovery point is again greyed out now with the reason that a non available drive was chosen but I chose C which is my system.

what do i have to do to be able to create again recovery points as usual?

thanks

flemming

Hi flemming77,

Welcome to the forum,

What are you trying to back up to? The internal drive C: needs to be backed upto another internal drive or an external drive.

Try going to "Home" then "Run or Manage backups" follow the instructions to create a recovery point of the computer. Untic the box "File and Folders" . Are all the tabs greyed out or just "Tasks"?.

More info on exactly you are trying to do or create would be helpful.

Deric.

Hi Deric

I want to backup my system so drive C and of course the destination drive has to be sth different then C but I don't even come so far to choose the destination.

I always do it the way you described it, on the linke below I made some printscreens, it's in german though but I think you will see what I mean. The last printscreen is the problem. I cannot choose for the first option:

http://www.file-upload.net/download-3484453/problem-ghost-15.docx.html

Had a couple of goes to view it but I think I see what you mean, Can't you go to "Task" tab and select "One Time Backup"? Failing that boot with the Installation disk or SRD (Custom Symantec Recovery Disk) and try a "Cold backup" that way it will backup up your computer C: drive onto your destination drive.

Are you sure though that Ghost has fully installed?

Deric

Looking again at your screen shots it seems to be missing a step, (I am now using Ghost 15) you need to tick the box "Do not add related drives" see Pic 1. I can see that you have used "Custom " method.

Deric.

And if I do a cold backup like you state earlier I don't get what I want:I want regular backups that are also consolidating etc, therefore I need the recovery point option.

thanks for further help

flemming

It is the System Reserved Partition or SRP. If you do not use Bitlocker, it is not the end of the world if you don't have a backup of it. You can recreate the boot files from the Recovery Disc.

so I can create an escape but the question is why should i do that? few weeks ago when I had the first backup it worked so now it has to work as well.even after uninstall the programm and installing it again it does not work..

I stepped over from acronis (after having for years and years soooooo many problems) to ghost hoping that it's just working and that I don't have to cruise on almost weekly base through all kinds of forums until a solution is found. In total I spent more time in solving problems then it would cost if I do everything just manually w/o any automatic actions...really frustrating....

I looked at your post with the links to the screenshots again. I think I know how to remedy your problem. I want to make sure that I understand what is actually wrong. Yoy are trying to setup a new backup job and Ghost will not let you choose the option of having incrementals, right?

If so you need to clear the history...

This will get rid of all of Ghost's backup history and schedules for Backup My Computer...

Open services.msc and stop the Norton Ghost service.

Using Windows Explorer, search and delete all .pq* files in:

C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Norton Ghost\History

and

C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Norton Ghost\Schedule

Now restart the Norton Ghost service. You will have to reconfigure your backup schedules.

If you don't want your old backups, you will have to manually delete them.

If the pic in the last post is what you are seeing then All the history hasn't been cleared properly and all the backup jobs cleared. May be necessary to uninstall with the NRT and re install Ghost.

The first recorded entry to back up the computer will be the one that incremental backups will start from and "recovery point set" will not be greyed out.

Deric
