I still haven't installed my Ghost yet. I've been waiting for my bookkeeper (wife) to do our taxes. They were finished yesterday so now I'm ready to proceed.

Brian, are you suggesting that I use two externals for my two internal HDs as backups?

If so how big should backup HDs be?

Which brings me back to the original question, when imaging, does the next time one images the HD does in over write or just add to the last one?

I am trying to understand how the process works.

Thanks, Mel

As my father used to tell me, "It's easy if you know it."

I just purchased Ghost 15.0 1PC.

I had tried to back up my computer with a Seagate Black Armor, but couldn't figure out how to recover the C drive.

So this is where I am at. I plan on formatting the 1T Black Armor external and partition it as two drives. We have two internal drives C is 320g with 36.6g used & D is 500g with 67.4g used. We are running with XP home. I would like to image the two internals on to the Black Armor. I also have a spare 320 with an enclosure so I can actually clone the C if needed.

What I am asking is if I schedule images and incremental backups can I get it to replace previous images and backups?

Something else I should bring up is that my wife is pretty much the sole user of the machine and she is working with Paint Shop Pro creating what she calls sigies, with tubes and fonts. So what I am trying to accomplish is an easy backup to be able to restore in case the operating system gets corrupted.

bruinokie,

To restore an image you need to boot from the Ghost CD and browse to the image, etc. Try it. Just see if you can find your image (recovery point). Then back out.

I suggest you use your second HD as the primary backup site. Much easier. Copy occasional images to your NAS as a secondary backup.

Mel,

To take full advantage of Ghost 15 it is advisable to install it, having said that you can run a "Cold" copy of both drives onto the external drive before you start to experiment.

Boot up from the SRD and follow the instructions on the screen, you will need the key code and tick both boxes to backup both drives.

When the software is installed again you can run a "One Time Backup" of Both drives in the same way.

Then when you are ready you can set up Ghost 15 for incremental backups.

I make folders on my external drive to run the recovery points into and that keeps it all tidy.

I use a 500 gig external drive for my backups and I back up a Multi boot machine with 4 O/Ss on in total something like 20 gig a time.

Deric
