Thanks Deric. I mostly wanted to have the whole drive backed up as i recently had a drive failure and lost everything, except that I had My Documents backed up on a different drive. The frustrating part was downloading and reinstalling all my programs and getting everything back to how it was running originally. That took about 2 days. So, I was hoping just backing up the whole drive every so often would speed up this process.

The external drive is mapped as Z in my network and Ghost did find it when i set it up as the backup destination.

Hi. I'm using the trial version to see if i works for me, and i just ran a full backup last night, to a networked external drive. I had selected for it to backup C: and also My Documents, and the total used space on the drive is 270 Gb. It took 10 hours to do what it says was 150 Gb for C: but that Files and Folders failed. I'm running just the Files and Folders backup again - it's showing 11 hours remaining, so it seems to be working, as I've got lots of big video files. The odd thing though it that if I look at the network drive, it shows it as empty - no files at all. I don't have any files hidden under Folder Options. when I tried to look at the recovery point data it also showed nothing - wouldn't even go to that drive.

any ideas from you experts out there?

thanks in advance

i'm attaching images of the messages I get if i try to Explore the C: backup it says worked.

dsheftel,

Are you sure that Ghost can "see" your NAS, the drive has to be "mapped" by Ghost for it to work.

Backing upto a NAS will always be slow and I wouldn't use the file and folder backup anyway,

keep your data on a separate drive or segregate it into folders so that you can drag and drop onto the NAS via the network.

If you want to back up your computer onto a NAS you only need the O/S and a few apps on your primary drive and that way the backup should only take 15 minutes max.

Deric

Have you got a USB external drive that you could connect directly to the computer because that is the best way to backup your pc much quicker.

There are a number of us on the forum that don't like file and folder backups, you get problems with it.

We can't see your pics yet they have to be approved first.

If you have all your data and apps and O/S on the one drive then all that is necessary is to run a "one time backup" on to the external drive and you will be safe.

Ghost will re-image the computer to the state it was in when you backed it up, nothing lost.

Deric
