What happens if you boot from the Ghost Recovery Disc or Windows CD? Will the PC stay running if you are using Windows PE?

My parents computer which has been using Norton ghost 15 has recently been shutting down on them on its own. ( I dont know much more than that since i did not witness any of it....being in another city )Norton kept trying to backup files...but had no more available space. Found out their SSD is messed up. The guy working on the computer cant get it to run for more than 15 seconds. I didnt think this was an issue with Norton till i recently installed it on my computer. The same day i installed Norton on my computer it started to automatically shut down on its own ( not a windows shut down) It shuts down and restarts like would happen if you were to hold down the reset button. This happens after approx. 5 mins of up time. Computer temps are OK. Both computers were using the same copy of Norton.

My computer has a gigabit board, i7 and a ocz 120 gig ssd. My parents is an AMD w/ a 80 gig SSD. Both computers are built computers and have been working for a while now..till recently of course.

Is there any known issues of norton ghost screwing up SSD's. or causing some sort of hard shut down. Any thoughts? Thanx

I should also say that i did not run norton ghost on my computer or even set up a location to backup files. The only thing that was done with norton was an update.

Also, I have heard of something similar to my situation happening with a combination of an antivirus software, windows xp, and a service pack update..
