I am running XP professional, 32-bit. I recently renewed my subscription to Norton Internet Security and also bought Norton Utilities 15. Since I installed NU15, my computer will no longer reboot, only shutdown. I press restart, it does a soft shutdown. I have done "shutdown -r" from the command line and the C prompt. It just shuts down. I have to manually restart it,. Every source I checked for this problem said to look at the last software installation. That would be Norton Utilities 15.

Use your XP installation CD to do a startup repair and see if that will get you booted up. I would then do a control panel uninstall of NU and reboot. Run a full scan with NIS and maybe even one with Malwarebytes free scanner. They work well together so keep them on your desktop.

Once you are sure that all is well and that both Norton and XP are fully updated I'd try a new install of NU from here:

www.norton.com/nu15

Your key will work with this copy.

Let us know how it goes

It turns out that Norton Utilities was not the culprit here, it was Orbit FLV File Downloader. I gave up on trying to fix the reboot problem. I ran BOOTFIX from the Recovery Console and even that didn't fix it. I decided to live with it. (How often do you reboot?) Anyway, tonight I removed the newly installed Orbit Downloader because of problems in other areas. Lo and behold, my computer rebooted properly, and has ever since. Thank you for your time and effort.
