Can you make it possible for users to delete their account?

Hi, one improvement I suggest could be made to these forums is that an option be available for any user who no longer wants their account to delete it simply by filling out a form or clicking a button (with the added instructions on the FAQs page of course). I don't know if this exists yet and I haven't found this option, but it would be a good feature for the future, particularly if people want to change security software and don't want their account anymore. By the way, I am not saying this cause I want to delete my account or cause I am unhappy with my experience, it is just an improvement I thought of.

Re: Can you make it possible for users to delete their account?

Hi _Jack_

The reason users can't delete their account is that we can't remove the posts from existing threads.   Threads would no longer read correctly with missing posts.

Any user that wishes to have their account deactivated can do it in one of two ways:

  • contact a moderator and ask the account be disabled.
  • any email sent by the forum has a link at the bottom to discontinue email, following that link will take you through a webpage which you must confirm, but when complete your account will be disabled.

Thanks for your participation in our forums.

What would happen if the User did not Log-On to their Account for, say, a few years; what would happen then, i.e. would the Account remain "Open", or would it be "Closed"?

Okay thanks. I will keep that in mind when I do want to leave.

Floating_Red does ask a valid question:

It would remain open.   As long as you remember the password, or have access to the email account attached to receive the password reset instructions, ohhh..... and the forum is still here and online.  :smileysurprised:

Okay, thanks for your help. I shall remember to keep this all in mind in the future...hopefully. But I don't think I will have a problem with passwords now that I use Norton Identity Safe :P.

Re: Can you make it possible for users to delete their account?

Thank you _JACK_ for creating this thread. I want to leave as this forum is way far away from reality. If Staff can check 99% posts are against Symantec and suggest other products. And most surprisingly those posts appriciated :( Sorry but most likely I will test next releases of Symantec 100 times before buying.

his might be my last post here.

bye - Have Fun

PS: Above post is not against anyone if you would like to know why I have written all above please check my all posts (even Locked)

Peace - Vipul

Hi vkat,

The staff reads 100% of all posts here.  We generally don't censor what people have to say either.   Symantec values this forum very much, as it allows us to hear clearly what users want.

Thanks for your participation, we hope you will come back.
