Running Win XP, SP3, IE-8. All latest updates. Last week I was able to load this forum in about 10 seconds or less with IE-8. Now it will not even load at all. IE-8 works great on all other web pages except this forum. I'm using the updated version of Firefox for this post an it is a little slow. I hope this will be fixed soon. ![]()

On one of my computers, I am running Win XP Professional SP3 and IE 7 and community.norton.com loads atrociously slow. Then I was thinking crud I hope this isn't a virus. Then, to see if it would be the same result, I went to my father's desktop computer (relatively new) running XP Professional and IE 7 - - same result. And, that computer is definitely more powerful than my laptop. However, what I am finding is that I can only have ease of use with the community Website if accessed with my desktop computer a Dell XPS 420 running Win 7 and running this version of Internet Explorer 8: 8.0.7601.17514 - - I believe this version is higher than what you will find with I.E. 8 running on an XP computer just because Win 7 is more advanced. Anyhow, I happened to be talking recently with a Symantec Manager over the phone, I detailed to him the situation, and he said it could be the case that due to the more advanced features of community.norton.com (from in the past) it makes the site virtually inoperable with older versions. This kind of sucks though because what about all the people who cannot afford to make the upgrade? By proxy, it is like Symantec (if you want to use community.norton.com) is forcing people to upgrade. This is similar to that debacle with safeweb.norton.com, remember, when the text-boxes were cut-off on the right-side? Although that is still happening (and the reason I still post all my reviews as comments) employing Win XP and I.E. 7/8 at least the site does not completely freeze up like with community.norton.com. Bottom line, if you want to access these community sites optimally, I hate to say it, but you will really have to upgrade to Win 7 and the version of IE 8 I provided above. This is what (I at least) am finding. It just seems to be the nature of the beast to keep up with these ever-complex sites. Moreover, even running my optimal combo, concerning safeweb.norton.com, although you can see the review - - the text is STILL really close up against the right-side of the text box. What is Norton thinking? Would it kill them to give us an extra inch on the right-side? Then some will say, use "compatibility view". In some instances, I have noticed that that is good, then in other cases, it is not so good.

If this is true what the Symantec Manager said, then it looks like this problem will never be fixed. ![]()

I just saw your post. Things have been hectic - - I've been bouncing around this forum and Safe Web all while trying to secure full-time work amidst this downturned economy. Absolutely terrible.
To be clear, the first "non-responsive" box is for IE and not your Norton Internet Security program, correct? As for the second box "telling Microsoft" - - yeah that's useless. My hope is that Norton/Symantec will create some sort of patch for this. I feel like I did my part, I reported this nonsense as soon as I saw it. Let me throw this Jupiter jazz at you. You know how with GMAIL you can load a "basic html"? What would happen if Norton/Symantec gave users of this forum (who are using older components) the option to load a basic version just for the essential functions of posting? That might be deliciously interesting. What I'm suspecting is that that little YouTube video right on the Homepage might be slowing things down. Then again, was that always there and I just never noticed? This forum has gotten to fancy for its britches. Let me ask you this, I know economic times are tough, but is there any possibility that you might be able to upgrade? I say this because we cannot afford to lose you as a contributor. Bad enough, I think this forum lost Delphinium, or, that was the banter that was going around. I would really love SendOfJive to weigh in here. That guy is NO NONSENSE. I remember a thread where the "Gurus" were bequeathed with a new power - - the power to mark solutions as solved and Send was against it. I have to tell ya, that dissent was like a clarion call. Personally, I think the "Gurus" having that power (if it is still the case) might be a license for all sorts of mischief to break loose, lol. Anyhow, you wouldn't happen to know of a way of contacting Send would you? I would also like him to comment on my discovery of OHKDFA.exe. Amazing. Over one-hundred [100] views and no one has ventured a comment.
Talking about "Driving Safe", I had a guy tonight that just blasted right through a red light - - could have been catastrophic.

Sure, I can offer a few comments. I think the forums have been generally slower for all visitors since Lithium made a few changes a while back. There definitely seems to be an increased use of scripting and that can affect page load times. As dickevans said earlier, the issues are being investigated.
I use Windows XP SP3, but almost exclusively use Firefox, so I was not aware of the issue with IE8. I just tried IE8 and, yes, there are some things on the forums that will not work at all, such as the "Go to" link at the top right of each page. I also get the "page done, but with errors" notice at the bottom of the screen. The errors are:

The site was in my Trusted Sites zone at the default "medium" security setting, so there are certainly some problems. Compatibility View did not seem to improve the situation.

I'm not disputing what you say about slowness and long periods of blank white screens here in Norton as we try to navigate from one place to another but I would like to say that I see exactly the same behavior on other Forums and they are not on the same host company as Norton.
I see a long delay that never used to happen when going from my desktop icon shortcuts to CNN, the BBC, Bay News 9 and so on as well as between pages within a site. As for playing videos I'm still trying to solve that one to get consistent results.
I'm on an otherwise good cable network which gives me decent speeds for what I need.
This is not something just here in Norton and although I've no idea what it could be it affects my system as a whole. It may well be aggravated by Norton's host software but it's more general than that.
