G,day Hammer_Bro,
The link I posted above sometimes worked, other times the "Unable to load the page" error was displayed. I tried a couple of hours ago with no success. Now, however the site does indeed display correctly. (In Firefox 11)
"Scaled Down Version" : - Hmmm, I am not sure of the legalities and practicalities of a scaled down version of the Norton Community. I do know there is a different version available for Android devices....
Google Chrome : - Not my favourite browser (Can't put my finger on why not?!)... But I have mentioned before in this thread (here) that when Firefox struggles (some days are diamonds, some days are coal) Chrome definitely appears, to me, to load pages quicker.
I hope this helps.
Cheers, Dave.

Good to hear from you Dave or is it Krusty?
I would say on all your points, interesting. I mean, a basic version of the forum might be boring, but, if it can allow for the essential function of posting and quicker “load times” to afford PTD some peace of mind - - I’m for it. Bad enough, I feel like he has already “left the building” so to speak. Now, you mention Firefox, but, does that also encompass their ‘Front Motion’ platform? So, there is consensus on Chrome.

Wow! What happened to the forum speed? It's running at normal speed again using Win. XP / IE-8. Did we have to wait until Friday the 13th to get it fixed? lol

You must think me an antique -- in which case you would be right -- but I don't do facebook or twitter or whatever involves "friending" and although I see a category for that here I've no idea what it does!
- Hugh I thought I was the only one that didn't do facebook & twitter. I don't even text, can't see the keyboard and my fingers are not fast enough to text. I guess we are antique! lol
- Hammer_Bro, I'm still in the building, I never left. ![]()

Either of you remember having to give the operator [always a female] the number of the phone you wanted to be connected to? Or how about having to watch out for the fresh 'road apples' left by the milk delivery man's horse? Or having to listen to the 'ring' of the phone to determine of the call was for your house and not another home on your 'party line'? Antiques are things that were old when I first started using them. ![]()

Go back a few moore years ours was ARDMORE 4646 which was updated to ARD 4646 when they changed out the old phone for a rotary dial model. ![]()

Of course, the second I leave the discussion board everyone “rings in”. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. We have a rotary phone and my dad still holds that it is clearer than these newer phones. Anyway, it’s good to hear that you’re still with us, PTD. Oh look, I did it again.

I remember one of my distinguished and very conservative research colleagues in the UK being visited by a Texan who was boasting about the wonderful new phone system they had and how by dialing 17 digits you could reach any phone in the USA!
He quietly replied "Oh I like our system where I pick up the phone and when Mabel replies I say "Could you get my wife on the phone, please?" and she replies "Sure John, I think she's round at Elizabeth's place this morning for coffee so I'll call there" and before you know it I'm talking with my wife ......
