360 and IE9 64-bit

I've had this computer a little over 1 year and I've been using IE9 32 bit since then just to use 360 but I'm getting tired of waiting for Norton to adjust 360 to work with IE9 64-bit.

"WHEN" will this be fixed?

64-bit has been out well over a year and I want to use it but can"t due to Norton.

My subscription runs out in about 60 days and while I like 360 I won't renew if it hasn't been asjsuted by then because I won't pay for some thing I can't and I'll be using 64 bit then which means no Norton unless it's fixed.

Come on Norton.  Stop dragging your feet.

Hi jimS61,

Norton will probably not be supporting 64 bit IE until such time as Microsoft makes 64 bit the default browser in it's operating system (be it Win 7 or Win 8).

BTW - I am curious which antivirus software that you are going to change that supports 64 bit IE??

Why?  It is slower than all other popular browsers, including IE 32-bit.  What advantage do you expect to see?

Re: 360 and IE9 64-bit

Stop making fun of users when u r itself stupid. Any 32 bit browser can use 1st 2gb of ram. With the advent of latest technology 8gb and 16 gb ram in laptops and desktops are quite common (@least in my circle). Why we must use many other application appplication in 32 bit bcoz of not availablity of 64 bit version this 2gb cap on application comes handy while using browsers.

about ur question of which antivirus is 64 bit.

AVG

ESET

and many other which have native x64 support. Rather than just supporting few application like norton. (Referring to norton not supporting office x64 products even).

Excuse me, as I may also be stupid in your eyes.  But I thought "native x64" meant that the entire program was 64 bit - which is not true for the 2 programs you listed ( AVG & ESET)  If I am incorrect, I apologize ahead of time for being stupid. :smileywink:

64bit installation of AVG placed in x86 folder is correct.  Please note that AVG is not completely 64bit.   EDIT by Will_h: All drivers and processes that scans your computer are 64 bit, only UI is 32bit and some non essential parts.

Are ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus native 64-bit applications?

ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus are hybrid programs in that they contain both 32-bit and 64-bit program code. The engine and interface modules used by your ESET security product to protect a system from malware are the result of years of development to create highly-optimized x86 assembly language code. During testing, it was discovered that recompiling certain portions of the program to 64-bit code resulted in increased memory usage with no discernible improvement in performance, stability or reliability.   When a 64-bit interface needs to be monitored, such as for on-access or Windows Socket layer scanning, 64-bit code is used. As evidenced by the high scanning throughput and detection rate of ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus under 64-bit operating systems, this does not cause any complications.   In general, the parts of your ESET security product that need to run as 64-bit do, while parts that have no advantage running as 64-bit remain 32-bit code.
