Hi I'm running Norton 360 v 5
My definitions dont update automatically. I have checked the time settings and have finally resorted to trying to uninstall and reinstall Norton. However I receive a runtime error and cannot complete this process. Anyone?

Hi, joebloggs9,
Welcome to our community!
How did you uninstalland reinstall Norton? Did you just go through Windows Control Panel (Add/Remove), or did you also run the Norton Removal Tool? The latter step is necessary to clean up any "digital debris" that Windows might leave behind, on account of how deeply intertwined security software must be witin the Operating System to do its job. Such debris can cause problems like what you're experiencing.
There's also an outside chance that you may have had a malware encounter with your Norton protection temporarily down; thus I would suggest you download and run the free version of Malwarebytes, just as a precaution.
Keep us posted; we're here to help until your problem is solved!

Thanks so much for this....the saga continues however...I finally managed to reinstall Norton 360 through using the assistance of a Norton representative...now that we have managed to re-install 360 my virus definitions still do not update automatically with the error message 8920,201. I resolve this problem by manually downloading the definitions only to have to redo it every 2nd day....yawn...would love to spend my time on more useful things!!!! Can anyone help!

Hi joebloggs9,
Try to delete LiveUpdate download folder by performing the following steps.
1. Start the Norton product
2. Turn off Norton product tamper protection
3. Navigate the following location c:\programdata\Norton\Guid\product version\lue\download
4. Delete the contents of the download folder.
5. Turn on Norton product tamper protection.
6. Run LiveUpdate.
Thanks,
Sheen

Are you using any proxy for connecting to the Internet?
Do you have any other Security products installed in your computer?
Run Checkdisk on your computer, clear prefetch and Windows Temporary folder, then run LiveUpdate again.
Thanks,
