A free Norton 360 upgrade followed by a blue screen error

For the last few days, I've had a message popping up about a Norton 360 free upgrade to the latest version. So I clicked install yesterday evening. I was using an ACER laptop with Windows 7 European version. It re-started to finish the process. The next time I re-started however I got a blue screen IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL and a memory dump and the system crashed. I had never had this problem since I bought the laptop about 3 years ago. I restarted in safe mode and uninstalled Norton and restored my computer. I was then able to log in. However I can't reinstall Norton now. I've had to download a free anti-virus programme tor replace it. Is the latest version of Norton 360 incompatible with Windows 7? I did a few antivirus checks since and all I found were a few tracking cookies...

Re: A free Norton 360 upgrade followed by a blue screen error

Without all the exact details of the blue screen it would be a guess to say what is wrong. Also you do not say what happens when you try to reinstall Norton. More details might help.

Meanwhile, by way of illustration only, a scenario could be that the newer version of Norton 360 exercised a part of your ram not previously tested in the same way and this is what causes the blue screen. It would have been useful to have then restarted in normal mode again. Or to have restarted without deleting programs after entering safe mode.

I would suggest you run Norton Removal tool, reboot and retry installing Norton 360 and advising exactly why it will not install

Norton 360 is compatible with the Windows 7.

Blue screen Error will be because of Multiple reasons. So with complete information we may not be let you the root cause for this issue.

Please check for any other security or antivirus program on the computer and uninstall it

You can try the basic steps like performing a chkdsk /f /r
