Antimalware Doctor

Hi everyone, I have been running Norton 360 version 3.8? on my pc for quite some time and all of a sudden last night I think I picked up a virus or spyware or trojan, I'm not sure the correct term.  A splash screen came up on my computer from Antimalware Doctor saying I had 18 problems in my computer.  Anyway, I of course didn't click on their link to go get their software to fix the problem but now I'm trying to figure out why this happened if I'm running Norton?  I've never had anything like this happen before. I checked Norton and it said my computer was protected to surf the web.  Do I need to have a spyware software in addition to Norton or does Norton take care of that also?  I have 2 computers so I'm writing this from my mac while Norton is scanning my pc for virus's and spyware.  So far it found and fixed 1 problem, not sure what that is yet.

I'm not very good at these security issues so any help anyone has would be appreciated.

Also, if anyone has an idea how to get rid of this, that would be helpful.  I've tried Malwarebytes Antimalware software and that didn't remove the splashscreen.  I downloaded PC Tools anti spyware software but that only found the problem but wouldn't remove it.  Help!

Thanks so much,

Annie

Hello anniedusay

After you get your computer cleaned up, you can upgrade for free to version 4.1 of N360 if you have a valid subscription. After your computer is cleaned up, please come back and we can give you a link for the update. Thanks.

Re: Antimalware Doctor

So far, I'm not real thrilled with Norton for letting the virus through in the first place.  None of the solutions have worked so far. I've now purchased spyware doctor and am working through the procedures to see if I can get this thing off my computer.

the link to mozilla is nice but too late; my computer is infected already but I'll keep it in mind for future.

the link to bleeping computer didn't work either.  I actually tried that last night.

You may have a new variant the blocks extra things.

Can you run Hijackthis the executable version??  I have renamed Hijackthis to "explorer.exe" and uploaded it to here

Re: Antimalware Doctor

Ok, so, so far nothing is working to get this virus off my computer but I'm waiting for the tech folks at PC Tools to email me back after I sent them reports of my system and what it's doing.

So, I have another question;  if I end up having to reformat my hard drive, I'm obviously going to need to back up a couple files before that; will there be a risk of the virus coming along with my backed up files to the backup hard drive?  If so, how will I know if it's there?

Ug, I hate computer viruses!

I was able to open and run it but, I'm sorry, it's a little over my head!

Re: Antimalware Doctor

Start Hijackthis (named explorer.exe) and create a log.

The post the log back here in a post, you will see where you can have attachments
