Back up to to local hard drive using Norton 360 V 5.1.0.29

I have just realised that my back up to a local hard disc  has stopped working. It hgas worked fine in the past. Hard drive is not full yet, is connected via USB cable and is switched on. However, when I try to run back  Norton 360 comes up with an error message ( no number) that there is something wrong with my back up device. How can I check that it is not something simple rather than a broken hard drive...? I have looked at some messages on the forum which recommended that I turn anti tamper button off in settings but that had no effect.Anything else to try?

Welcome KGB,

Need a few answers before I can start making suggestions or even a few guesses. Operating system and version of 360 would be the first items. When you open the pane that shows you 'where' you are sending your backup set is the correct drive selected [a black dot in the circle in front of the device icon]

Thanks

Hi KGB,

Try the solution from the following Symantec KB:
