It is taking a very long time to create and delete the backup set on the drive on my comp. I have also tried putting backup on DVD-RW disk and it doesn't seem to finish :( am I missing something in setting or is this just how long it takes?

There are quite a few variables that can be in play with the backup. Based on your initial message there is not sufficient details to properly assist you yet.

Before we delve too far what specific product are you using?

Are all of your backups being performed via local media or a mix between online backup and local media?

I am using Norton 360 and I’m trying to setup backup on DVD-RW, so I save valuable hard drive space, unfortunately when I was on the phone the other day with a Norton tech he had put it on my hard drive and it still took a long time to do that, so now I’m trying to delete it from the hard drive. According to the program that is running now it has to delete a backup that has 88,500 files, it has been running for 2 days nonstop and only deleted so far 8,200 files! Something is clearly wrong somewhere.

I'm having the moderators relocate the post to the Norton 360 forum. This specific forum is for the online backup portion of the service. I agree that something is not running correctly but the local backup portion is not my forte. I want to ensure you get proper assistance.

I was using an external hard drive for backups.  The N360_Backup folder got so large it used twice the space as the drive I was backing up.  Can I set it to overwrite the previous backup so it won't take up all my space?  It took 24 hours to delete the backup files in the folder.
