Backup doesn't select some files

I am trying to set up regular backups via the "Manage Backup Sets" feature, and have made use of the "Include Folders" (see Image1.jpg attachment). This seems to have worked for all my folders except for those which are in "C:\Program Files\xyz". A preview shows that files in "C:\Program Files\" are not being picked up (see Image2.jpg attachment). What am I doing wrong?

(Retry but with inline images this time)

I am trying to set up regular backups via the "Manage Backup Sets" feature, and have made use of the "Include Folders", as per the following screenshot:

Re: Backup doesn't select some files - workaround?

Maybe the way around this problem is for me to write a .bat file to regularly copy the problem files to another location where it can be backed up from? I've not had experience of writing .bat scripts, but presumably it's not too difficult? (Famous last words.)

Re: Backup doesn't select some files

From what I'm seeing here, it looks like none of the files in your Palm directory have changed since your last successful backup/last time the archive bit was toggled (the preview just shows which files are going to be included in this iteration of this backup--meaning that no files that don't need to be backed up will be shown, even if your settings are correct and, once one or more have changed, they will be.

A quick test of this would be to modify one of the files in your Palm directory (whether directly or by modifying it on your Palm and resynching) then pull up the backup and look at the Preview again.

If you try this, let us know the results. We're here to help until you're ready to click that "Accept as Solution" button, to help other users encountering the same circumstances more quickly find an answer that has worked.

Re: Backup doesn't select some files

I tried your suggestion and added some more files as a further test. You can see from the following snapshots that the archive flag is on for some files and off for others.

Here is the snapshot of the setup:

And here is the snapshot of the preview:

Over to you.

Re: Backup doesn't select some files

[ Edited ]

Hmm; OK...it's   pretty clear that there's an exclusion somewhere for \Program Files that's overriding your attempt to include any subordinate directories.

I have no idea why this would be the case, or what (if anything) can be done to fix it.  But at least we have a tighter focus on what's causing this, so perhaps someone else will be able to offer something.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Re: Backup doesn't select some files

Thanks for your input. The only other idea that I have is the batch script workaround which I will only attempt as a last resort. In the mean time hopefully someone in the forum will come up with a solution, as you say.

Re: Backup doesn't select some files

Yeah, you shouldn't have to do that, certainly.

In the meantime, you might poke around to see if there's anyplace in settings where it says exclude files in \Program Files.

@ etchman,

Open N 360, Click on Support > Help > go to the Index Tab and scroll down to backup, then down to and highlight  "items excluded", then click on display.

This will tell you what is normally excluded and how to change those items.
