I just bout a new computer and reinstaled norton 360 from the symantec web site. It, for some reason, installed version 3.0. I tried to do a file restore fromt the backup i had on an external drive and v3 wont let me. the Backup was created with v2.0 but i cant imagine it would not be backwards compatible. When I click on view files...nothing happens.
At the very least, I want to download the version 2.0 but Norton does not seem to provide those files on the website. anyone have any ideas?

Please see this post for information about the various backups and restores across versions. If you use Explorer (Windows) to view the backup data files do you see one named ARestored.exe? You can run this file to manually restore the v2 backups (I believe; I have only run v3 recently so I am trying to remember this) .
See this post / thread for more information:

1. Navigate to the folder C:\Program Files\Norton 360\Engine\3.x.x.x, you can find a tool Arestore.exe (where 3.x.x.x can be 3.0.0.134 or 3.0.0.135 depending on your version)
2. Navigate to the folder C:\Program Files\Norton 360\MUI\3.x.x.x\09\01, you can find a file Arestore.loc ((where 3.x.x.x can be 3.0.0.134 or 3.0.0.135 depending on your version)
3. Copy Arestore.exe and Arestore.loc to the root directory where you have saved the backup created using Norton 360 (along side the N360_BACKUP folder) and run Arestore.exe. It will look in the N360_BACKUP folder for your backup set.
In your case you should copy Arestore.exe and Arestore.loc to the external drive where you have the N360_BACKUP folder. Double click on Arestore.exe, it will run and restore all your backed up data.
If this does not work, go to the next set of steps........
4. If it fails to find your backup set, you'll have to remove the corrupted catalog file.
To remove corrupted catalog file, go into the folder N360_BACKUP. There should be a folder with a long alphanumeric name, open this folder. You can see a file called backup.@db. This is the catalog file. You need to move this file out of that directory (put it on your desktop for safekeeping.)
5. Once backup.@db has been removed, go back and try running Arestore.exe again from the root directory.
Note: This process may take a long time.
Let us know the result.
