Is there a particular reason why you want to remove the Norton IPS?   This plug-in provides additional protection against drive-by downloads and malicious Web sites that can exploit vulnerabilities in your browser and other browser plug-ins.

Thanks,

John @ symantec

I got my first ever trojan due to the fact that Norton IPS & Toolbar were disabled. In my case it was as a result of Norton 360 not being compatable with Firefox 3.6 when it came out, I believe the level of protection is compromised when these addons are not working or disabled. This was also an issue with Firefox 3.5. I have asked twice know for an answer as to whether or not Symantec are going to ensure we dont have the same issues with the next major version of Firefox, but still have not got a reply.  Please address this issue Symantec, the IPS & Toolbar are an important part of 360, and we should not have to wait weeks before you sort out compatability issues that have been occuring  with major Firefox updates.

Re: Cannot get rid of the Norton add-ons in Firefox / automatically enabling themselves on system re

The reason why everyone is so angry is that Norton just assumed we wanted the tool bar and gave no way to uninstall it! It is not a Mozilla issue from what I have read but a norton issue. It seems this .dll "IPSFFPl.dll" generates the add-on with each re-boot and it can't be deleted.

Even though I get Norton free from Comcast I may just uninstall it in favor of another product.

I cannot get rid of it either.  I don't like it beacuse it takes up too much space in the menu bar.  McAfee's site advisor is small and sits in the status bar.

Other than this N360 is a nice product.  If it helps I am running FireFox 3.6 on a Win7 laptop.
