Re: Comprehensive scan does not complete

2 Forum threads to read carefully from people who have installed N360 after NIS or the other way around, with the problems they had like freezing, beeps etc.

Re: Comprehensive scan does not complete

What  do you think of Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI) for program updates?  Also, would Firefox or Google Chrome add any protection from IE bugs and security holes?

When installing NIS or N360, when the other product installed (NIS /NAV installed so install N360) does not make for a clean Uninstall and then install of the new product.

You end up with left over folders, reg entries etc.  from the previous product.

Seeing your NIS was not working correctly then you installed N360..............................

I have given you the threads above both with posts giving directions on how to totally remove Norton Products. To make sure it's a clean install after.

Re: Comprehensive scan does not complete

Well my friend, I read those 2 threads immediately when you provided them.  I'm unable to locate any NIS files/folders to remove.

I reread both threads. Neither helped this dinosaur move forward.  Heck, even the "How to export InfoVault or Identity Safe data" doesn't give me an option that fits.  Perhaps the instructions are different for XP than Win 7.

Anyhow, it appears we've gotten off track, and I'm certain that problem lies with me.  So, I'll restate.

6 month old Netbook came with trial NIS installed.  I began to notice problems a couple months ago,  b4 NIS expired.   One symptom:  Quick Scan would complete, Comprehensive Scan would not complete, would freeze and lock up computer.  Another symptom was lock up in what appears to look like Sleep Mode (black screen).

I used HijackThis, discovered Anti_Malware_Pro trojan.  Used the HijackThis "Fix."  It didn't.  Upgraded to N 360, didn't help.  Perhaps the Anti_Malware_Pro is lurking deep.  It no longer shows up on HijackThis.

Re: Comprehensive scan does not complete

Well if you can't follow those instructions on how to remove Norton and clean install, there is nothing I can do.

I actually installed 2 Norton products to see what happens and it did not cleanly remove the previous version, it actually on the the startup looks like the PC gets umm a little slow and confused.

Also for the latest versions N360v4 and NIS,    NIS won't install with N360v4 there, it tells you to remove 360 first.

Re: Comprehensive scan does not complete

Ramjet:

The problems that you had with NIS are not relevant at the moment because you now have a corrupted installation of N360.  The backup instructions are only for your convenience in case you want to save your data before you reinstall.

Quads has determined that you do not have a serious malware problem, and he is a specialist in those matters.

You will need to run the removal tool twice with a reboot after each, and then reinstall the latest version of the product.  The links for both the removal tool and both versions of N360 were carefully provided by Yaso_Kuuhl for users' convenience.  You will need to run liveupdate repeatedly until the final update arrives to get you back to 3.8 version.

If you follow those instructions, you will at least have a clean installation of the product.  If you then have problems, we can try to help with those.

Under certain circumstances profanity provides relief denied even to prayer.

Re: Comprehensive scan does not complete

OK guys, I'll give it a shot.  Here's what makes following the instructions UNCLEAR.

Do I remove my N 360?  If I need to remove NIS, how do I do that when I can't find it/navigate to it.  Do I ignore the save safe Identity instructions?  Here are the options I'm given:  http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nco.nsf/0/e5a44e06f97b3f89882572260060120f?OpenDocument&seg=hm&...

You command, I obey.

Re: Comprehensive scan does not complete

Norton Removal Tool (NRT) removes these products:

After using the NRT twice, so completely removed, would be to see if the likes of Malwarebytes and / or SuperAntispyware Free will then run a Full Scan (after updating their defintions.
