The comprehensive scan runs for a few minutes, freezes and locks up my computer.
I've tried 'One Click Support' but it begins by running a scan that does not complete, freezes and locks up computer.

Gt to Norton window -- Help & Support -- About.
What version of 360 have you got
The latest is 3.8.0.41.
Have you done a Manual update, you need to do a Manual 'Run LiveUpdate' to get the latest version update.
Run update a couple of times, you might be asked to reboot/restart.
Restart anyway.
What OS are you runnung, plus the sp ?

For the SP of your XP , right click 'My Computer' then click 'Properties.
For IE version, Open your Browser , click Help, then 'About Internet Explorer'.
What happens if you do a 'Quick Scan'
Or a 'Let me Choose Scan'?

Home, 2002, SP 3
IE 8 (that's what I thought)
Quick scan completes, usually blocks cookie tracker
'Let me Choose Scan' of PC Security (Virus and Spyware scan) does not complete, freezes and locks up computer
BTW, I'm using a 6 month old Gateway Netbook, Mod #: LT2005u, manufactured 2009 in China
Recent history has unauthorized access blocked (Open Process Token)

Have you tried running Malwarebytes, just to see if you have any Malware on there.
You can download it from the Link below,
Download the Free version (blue)
After installing it, run 'Update' from button at the top.
This will make sure you have the latest definitions.
Then click the 'Scanner' button at the top,
Select 'Perform Full Scan'
Then click 'Scan'
It could take a while if you have a lot on your Drive(s).
If it finds anything, save a Log File, and attach it to a Message here.
Just a thought, do you have any other security program's running.
Two security prog's running at same time could cause a conflict.

I've had Malwarebytes for a while and it won't complete a scan either. same as Norton, it freezes and locks up computer.
I recently downloaded STOPzilla after this problem began in an attempt to complete a scan-no joy.
I did HiJackThis, found "Anti-Malware Trojan" but it wasn't listed in the Task Manager Processes tab.
I'm pretty sure I've got a nasty bug. I'm at the point where I'm worried I might do more harm than good.
