Computer may be compromised

I'm suddenly getting messages from Firefx and Internet Explorer warning me off PayPay or American Express when I try to log in to do some banking.  I was able to access both sites from a laptop wirelessly connected to the same router as the first computer.  Norton 360 is telling me that I am protected for banking.  Suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

Hi thedavid123,

What sorts of warnings are you getting - certificate errors?  If so, it may be that something is redirecting you to fraudulent lookalike sites rather than to the actual banking sites you are intending to visit.  Be very careful not ot enter any usernames and passwords if there is any doubt at all about being at the legitimate web page.  Despite what Norton 360 tells you, if you disregard the red flags and send sensitive data to a fake website, your accounts are going to be compromised.  See this recent thread for a similar situation:

Re: Computer may be compromised

Thanks - yes - they were messages about certificates. I'm going to change passwords using another computer.  Since I didn;t get those messages on my laptop, I'm guessing there is something hiding in the desktop, although Norton is not finding it.  Is it possible to locate and remove?

Hi thedavid123,

It is possible that a rootkit is involved.  Your best bet is to register and post at one of the malware removal sites mentioned:
