Hey,
Using Norton 360 Premier 2013, with the online backup feature I have a custom backup setup for certain directories (using all filetypes) on the automatic schedule. I have explorer overlays enabled.
First question is, if I delete a file that was previously backed up on the computer, does this file also get deleted from the online backup?
Also, if I rename a previously backed up file on the computer, what happens exactly?
Before I renamed the file, the overlay showed that the file was backed up. Then I rename the file and the icon changes to say that the file is pending backup.
Will the online backup end up having 2 identical files with different names? Or does the name for the original file get amended on the online backup?
Thanks :)

Welcome,
Between actual backups there is no interactive connection between your active drive and the backup drive. This means that nothing changes on the backup drive until you specifically change it.
To the backup software the new filename indicates a new file. Therefore, it will be backed up and you will have the same data in two files with different names.
Once files are placed on a backup drive they are set. The only time any data in them changes is when you restore the file, change it and then back it up again. Online backup and an external drive backup are the same in that your regular activity on the computer will not have any effect on the data stored on them.
Hope this helps. Keep us posted
