Do I need to uninstall last year's Norton 360 before installing version 4?

My Norton 360 is expiring tomorrow, so I bought the new Norton 360 version 4 today and am getting ready to install it on both our home pc's (mine has Windows XP and my children's has Vista).  Do I need to uninstall the old version before loading and installing the newer one?  And, if so, just how do I go about that?  Sorry to be so clueless, but I hired a tech to install the old version a year ago after he removed the worm that had infected my pc.  Thanks in advance.

Hello not_a_geek,

Can you tell us which version of Norton 360 you are currently running?

From the main User Interface check: Help & Support > About.

Let us know the version number and we can give you better guidance.

It would also help to know if the products are Standard or Premiere.

Thanks!

Hi Phil_D,

Thanks for responding.  The old version is 3.0 and both versions are standard--for up to 3 pc's.  I have the old version 3.0 installed on 2 home pc's that are wireless networked together, so my children can access the internet (under supervision) and print from my printer.  My pc has Windows XP and theirs has Vista.

Thanks,

As long as your current version of Norton 360 is running properly, you should be able to install the newer version 4 without uninstalling version 3.

I would suggest using the Update Center here and select the automated "Update Me Now" or "Choose My Product Manually" to update to the newest version.  Using this download manager will also bring in recent definitions, so that you do not have to download a huge definitions file after installation.

As an extra precaution, it is wise to back up your Identity Safe data.  Also be sure to have your new activation key handy.

Let us know how this works out for you.
