Hello All
After reading some posts about this issue, I have some questions:
On my husband's computer (Win 7 Prof SP1 32bit) , he is running N360 Premier v 5.xx The subscription ends in a couple of weeks. We have already purchased, retail, N360 Standard v 5.xx - 3 PC User (we don't need the 25GB of online storage). We will be downloading from Norton website the Standard version and using the Product Key that came in the retail box.
Thanks in advance for your help

Hi,
from Premier to Standard it is enough to remove the program with it's own uninstaller (what you can find in Start Menu), and than install the Standard version. It is only necessary as the two has different product keys, and you can not activate the new product-key without the removal.

Hi fritzmom,
I understood that you afraid of uninstalling Norton 360 Premier make you to lose your datas..
here is the solution for all your questions...
i) When you install Norton 360 standard, It will automatically update the Norton 360 premier to the Norton 360 standard
ii) My suggestion for the uninstallation of Norton 360 permier is --> Go to start menu --> Uninstall of Norton 360 . But, remember to choose the option --> Save all the previous settings, configurations and datas, before you choose uninstall.
iii) Also, NRT is a tool where we can use to remove the any norton programs in a force manner. So, here it is not necessary to use this tool.
iv) Online backup datas will not be removed / deleted, when you uninstall and reinstall the Norton 360. Also, ensure that you choose the option --> Save all the preferences, settings and configurations before proceeding the uninstall.
Let me know if you have any issues....

fritzmom,
<< What happens to the stuff he has on Online Backup? Will he lose all that information that was previously backed up online with N360 Premier? >>
You raise a good question since you get 25GB of free OnLine backup with Premier but only 2GB with Standard.
If he has more than 2GB stored I imagine he has to start paying for it but can he access it meanwhile and can he reduce the amount stored down to the free 2GB if that is what he wants to do.
I hope someone can answer that definitively for you.
He shoujld also for safety Export the Identity Safe data file to a safe place just in case .......

Thanks to everyone for your time and help. I'm pleased to say there were no problems going from Premier to Standard on my husband's computer.
Again, Thanks for all your help!

Barb,
Can you help us by answering the question about accessing the online backups (if your husband used that) since Premium gives 25GB free but Standard only 2GB free and I was wondering if, say, he had 10GB stored under Premium could he access it all from Standard?
Thanks if you can but not to worry if you can't.

Hi Hugh
My husband used the Online Backup, but not very much....according to Norton Online Backup screen 2.43GB of 25GB has been used.
He can still access his backup....which leads us to another question: how does he delete selected files to bring down the total storage space used to within the limits of 2GB? (He doesn't want to pay for more storage.) When I was checking his backup there was a message that there were 'no backup sets'. Forgive me for not understanding Norton Online Backup (I have never used it) and when I asked hubby how he did the backup, he replied that Norton wanted to do a backup so he said OK - he doesn't know how the backup was created!!
But to answer your question, yes, his backup files can still be accessed.

Hi Barb,
Thanks for filling in the details .....
I'm sure someone else can help you in manipulating the storage -- again something I don't use.
