Computer was running slowly and I noticed Norton wasn't running so I clicked the icon to activate it and this error message came up to fix errors. Once I tried to click out or click X out I I received "how to" instructions to restart computer. Exit all programs, restart computer. I tried to restart the computer but it kept spooling the reboot over and over. We called for help and eventually had to clean C drive off. I have back up drive and now re installed windows pack with Norton 2005 30 days trial. It keeps going out too. I wanted something there until I could put back Norton 360. Im worried the virus is still there. Can someone please help me?

You can run a scan using the Norton Power Eraser tool. Here is the support article with the steps:
http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_ty
If you are not sure about any entry in the Scan results window, please post the result here. We will help you.

Ditto CyberLife.
Download Norton Power Eraser from here and run a scan:
http://security.symantec.com/nbrt/npe.aspx?lcid=10
After the scan you will see a screen similar to this:
On that screen you can decide if a file is infected and needs fixing or not. If you are unsure, you can click on the "Scan" button to scan it a second time using another detection method. And if you are still unsure, click on the filename and the program will give you even more details:
If your results look like the above examples, the file is probably fine and doesn't need "fixing" unless if Norton gives you the red flag warning.
If you have questions, come back here and ask. And be extra careful before you select "Fix" for any file.

Thank you. I am still having issues and have cleaned the c drive twice. All was great and I had everything loaded back on then I went and clicked on set program and access defaults and it stayed in hour glass to long. I cntl alt deleted and nothing so I turned it off and waited a bit. Turned it back on it stayed in idle on the windows screen booting up so I turned it off again back on and then it went right back to safe mode could use my arrow keys or page down options and it started in normal mode only to stop again at the booting windows screen. Haven't tried it again...Ooh and yes I used the Norton manager power eraser too prior to the new problem....Help!

Something is definitely wrong, but I'm not convinced you are infected.
I'm curious, why are you installing the 2005 version? Here's a link to the newest version:

No I actually downloaded it first until I got my computer running when I downloaded v,5 it was automatically removed. Also, now I am downloading Norton to my other computer and it says I have an error there that there is another version of Norton or Symantec and it needs to be removed and the process can restart. I do have Symantec but I thought is was separate from the Norton download...Silly of me I guess...

So when you're done downloading and installing the new version
1) What is the erroneous behavior you are seeing?
2) What would you expect to see happen instead?
3) What are all of the various security products you have installed including version numbers?
4) Is this a clean operating system, or have you been reinstalling/using it for a while?
5) What are the hardware specifications?
