I have Norton 360 on my computers and I want to try another security and anti-virus program. I want to just shut off Norton while I try the new program. How do I turn Norton off?

Hello griceldapere
Welcome to the Norton Community Forum
In order to test another real time security and antivirus program, you would have to completely uninstall N360 and then install the other security program. Just turning it off would still leave the components of the program in your computer. You would have to use the control panel method first and reboot and then use the Norton Removal Tool to completly remove N360. Thanks.

Hi Griceldapere,
Just to make the Norton off for a while... Go to the system tray, right click on the Norton 360 icon --> disable smart firewall and auto protect.
If you still want to try, just go ahead and uninstall then try with different antivirus programs. But, make sure while uninstalling the Norton, you have to enable the windows firewall for the precaution.

Hummm...
How about selecting "Turn ON Silent Mode" instead... (On r-click of systray's icon...)

That merely quells background tasks and alerts. It does not disable the realtime functions in the product, which is necessary if you are installing and running other realtime security software. Complete removal of Norton 360 is the best solution, since there is no way to completely turn off the service that runs when Norton is installed.

You first open the program. On the side of the start screen you will see like antivirus sonar protection turn all the off then Norton if basically all turned off. This is with Norton Internet Security so I think Norton 360 is the same.

Hello
Even with everything disabled, the drivers and other components will still be installed. As SendOfJive has said, the best way would be just to uninstall N360 and then use the removal tool to get a clean uninstall for the test.
