How to remove click.livesearchnow virus?

[ Edited ]

First-time post here.

I caught a redirect  virus last night that I believe is called click.livesearchnow. At least, that's one of the urls the virus sends my Google search to. Norton 360 scan doesn't find anything. Can anyone tell me best way to get rid of it? By all accounts, this is a dangerous virus.

Btw, I did a search here for l"click.livesearchnow" and came up snake-eyes, which was a bit surprising. Perhaps it's known as something else?

Thanks, jon

Looks like it is done by a PUP or zeroaccess

Did you try using Norton Power Eraser or Norton Bootable Recovery Tool?

If not, please try that & let me know the results. Also, try to clear the Internet temporary files & windows temporary folder.

Thanks,

Re: How to remove click.livesearchnow virus?

I can tell you first hand its a pain, I delt with Norton for four days to remove it from my computer. They actually messed my computer up even more then it was, they removed files that op system needed, next you know I was getting bsod's nonstop. Save yourself four days of hassle/fustration and reinstall your op system. I'm running Norton 360 "upto date" with windows 7 64bit.

As far as the name of the virus, Norton never told me that.

"Quads: ???  a PUP or a zeroaccess???  How does that help us resolve the issue?  I'm having a heck of a time googling anything 'cause the nature of the virus keeps redirecting my search results."

That is why people like myself do things a certian way.

A Norton Employee has this thread.

Does that mean they'll post, how to resolve the issue?

I tried resetting to a previous restore point, but the effort failed.

I have a feeling that "virus protection" is a means for extorting money from common computer users.

I already have Norton,  a service I guess I'm paying for indirectly through my ISP, but now I'm being asked to pay for "Virus Removal Assurance?"  What the hizzy!

Resolution... at least for now.

As advised: Norton Eraser did the trick.

Downloaded the file to the download folder [oops], and then moved it to the desktop where I should have saved it initially.

Ran [double clicked] Norton Eraser and accepted terms of use.

Scanned system (system restarts)

Norton Eraser itentified two files during boot-up:

ugmmdw.dll <----  I think that's the one.  It was recent to my system (within a day before symptoms occurred).

& Windows Live Movie Maker.lnk <--- lame old file.

Identified each of these files for removal (I don't use Windows Live Movie Maker.lnk too much anyway).

Click the FIX button (system restarts)

Open browser  voila!  Now, when I search "puppies," I get puppies; and when I search "porn," I get porn; and not visa versa.

Thanks for your patience and good luck to all.
