How to setup a Minecraft Server with port forwarding with Norton security suite version

Ok, I want setup a server for a game called Minecraft, I looked at every tutorial out there.  Port I need open is 25565, but no matter what I do I can't get it open, and I know its the Norton security suite fault because my friends who do have a server working don't have Norton security suite. Please sent me a easy to follow how-to-guide, so I can have my own server.

My system info
I am using a wireless internet for my computer
windows 7 ultimate
32-bit operating system
Linksys Router WRT54G

Thank you for reading.

Sincerely, Daniel Pace

Re: How to setup a Minecraft Server with port forwarding with Norton security suite version

Again, I apologise. I did a search to speed my reply,
Have you seen this site yet? (I checked the security reports from Norton and McAfee, just in case; it appears safe):
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G/Minecraft_Server.htm

To allow access through Norton, follow these steps:

•Open Your Norton Product (Security Suite)
•Click Settings.
•Click Firewall.
•On the Traffic Rules tab, click Add.
•click Allow, then Next
•[I believe you would choose] allow connections from other computers.

—is this a public or private server? [I believe] Private servers require you to add individual computers' to the "list" of what is affected by this; It requires more maintenance than publics. notify me if this is what you want.

if this is for a public server:
•Choose the default setting, Any Computer, then Next
•[not 100% sure on this, others reading this, confirm or correct me] choose protocol "TCP and UDP".
•Choose "Only communications that match all types and ports listed below"
•Click Add. Under Filter by, choose "Individually specified ports".
•Under Locality, [I believe the port is so] choose "Remote"
•Enter port number 25565
•Select "OK" then "Next"
•Create your own name for this as prompted
•Continue following on-screen instructions

Re: How to setup a Minecraft Server with port forwarding with Norton security suite version

Did you read the first link I posted? You need a Static IP address to use port forwarding. This page and the links it provides should give instructions on how to obtain a Static IP address with this router; it should also give instructions for port forwarding for your router.

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G/Minecraft_Server.htm

As a side thought, is there any other running firewall on your computer? Interference may occur.

Try changing the rule to "Allow connections to and from other computers"
Also, experiment with the setting (found at the end of the setup) for "Apply this rule" under "When packet is from NAT Traversal"

When done, try testing the results with the link at the bottom of the page I provided and at canyouseeme.org

Re: How to setup a Minecraft Server with port forwarding with Norton security suite version

Are you able to setup the server for Minecraft if you disable/turn off Smart Firewall in Norton Security Suite?

If you have not tried that, please check it. If the problem persists, uninstall Norton Security Suite & check. You may be able to reinstall your Norton Security Suite later. Let us know the results.

Thanks,
