IPS and Norton Toolbar

How do I remove the IPS and Norton Toolbar add-on from firefox. I didn't ask for this tool and I can't remove it.

Re: IPS and Norton Toolbar

Hi,

Welcome to Norton Community!

Norton toolbar and IPS offer many features like Login/Form Fill, Site rating, Warning about malicious sites & Phishing sites, Secure notes, & Intrusion Prevention etc. It's recommende you keep them enabled. If you still don't want to use them, You can remove them from Firefox->Tools->Add-ons : Select the add-on and disable them, Restart the browser. You can enable them if you want in the future.

Hi mfg1957

just my $.02

Are you offended by the Norton add-ons or the Norton toolbar.  If the Toolbar offends you ~ Hide the Toolbar.

Nope doesn't work. When I reboot the toolbar re-enables.

What I don't like is somone making a decision for me. All Norton had to do was make it an option instead of being intrusive. It's pretty rude don't you think?

By design once you hide the toolbar, it will not reappear until you unhide the same.

Run Live update multiple times unless no updates found and tell us the version of the Norton Internet Security (Main UI -> Help& Support -> About)

And also let us know the version of firefox you use.

Re: IPS and Norton Toolbar

Sometimes the extension files in firefox responsible for compatibility between Norton and Firefox may be corrupted. If the Norton add-ons are not disabled even after disabling, as a workaround, try deleting the extension files:

Open your profile folder:

  1. Open Firefox 3.6: At the top of the Firefox window, Click on the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information.... The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
  2. Under Application Basics, click on 'Open Containing Folder'
  • From the menu at the top of the Firefox windowbar, select File and then select the Exit menu item.
  •

    Delete the following files:

    • extensions.ini
    • extensions.cache
    • extensions.rdf
  • Restart your System
  •

Please let's know if this works.

After reading some of the other forums, I don't think this will work. Norton will just re-install the addons when I reboot, No? I didn't install the extensions manually in the first place, so why can Norton just send out a fix!!!!?

Tried it and as I expected didn't work. After a little more research it seems this .dll "IPSFFPl.dll" generates the add-on with each re-boot and it can't be deleted.

Norton needs to send a fix.
