Is Norton 360 what I need?

Is Norton 360 the right product for my needs.

I have used Norton products for over 7 years.

The big feature I use is "Norton Anti-Spam".

Features like "Backup", "PC Security" with live update and such don't live up to their hype.

With Norton's first troube-shooting step to delete your current version of their product, my confidence in the system (Norton) goes way down.

So, how do I get Norton Anti-Spam without all the other Baggage?

Re: Is Norton 360 what I need?

I'd suggest Norton Internet Security because it has the AV engines and firewall -- and now in the latest 2012 version -- without the utilities that you don't want (I don't either). It's also usually about $10 cheaper.

Look in the store flyers for a cheap deal on NIS 2011 3 PC version -- I see one source with it at $19.99 this week after two mail in rebates (N 360 gives you qualification for the Upgrader's Rebate).

Get that and install it after uninstalling N 360 -- save your Identity Safe Data if you use that feature -- and then install NIS 2011 then run LiveUpdate several times with a reboot inbetween until it says you are fully uptodate.

You are entitled to a free upgrade to NIS 2012 but it's only just out and so I'd let the others have the birth pangs for a while. It won't be forced on you by LiveUpdate since that does not do whole version upgrades. You may get a popup message that you are entitled to a free upgrade but ignore it for now. Then when you are ready you can do Support / Vesion Update and it will upgrade you automatically ...

Hope that helps but let us know if you have any questions.

Hugh, you hit the nail right on the head.

I do use "Idendity Safe" plus "Norton Antispam" the most, and they have given me the least hassle in their running.

I will read up on NIS.

You know where to find us so please come back when you are ready to do something since we can then try to help you make a smooth transifion.

If you have not found it already you may find this comparison table useful:

http://us.norton.com/products/charts/comparison.jsp?pcid=mp

It looks as if only backup & restore and tuneup are not in NIS and despite making a liar of me by offering N 360 for $10 less than NIS .... I'd still go for NIS, grab the 2011 to get the KEY and install it and then upgrade to 2012 after it settles down.

A difference not mentioned in the comparison is that the N360 is deliberately designed for the fit and forget user who shouldn't get involved in tweaking settings while NIS lets the user adjust a lot of stuff. Oh yes, and until N 360 V6 comes out NIS and NAV have the latest generation of engines and malware systems.
