I recently had to recover my default settings on my netbook after a hard drive failure. The recovery program backed up "my documents" and some programs that I had installed, including my Norton 360.
However, I can't figure out how to make N360 the default AV program again. Do I need to do the uninstall - reinstall thing? or is there another process whereby I can point the OS towards the existing N360 files?
TIA for all replies.

Hi AcerBB,
Did you reinstall your OS? In that case, Norton will have been nuked during the OS reinstallation.
If Norton 360 is no longer on your machine, please do the following to reinstall Norton 360:
Depending on which edition of Norton 360 you have got, please download the correct edition of Norton 360 version 4 from the appropriate link below and save it to your desktop:
Norton 360 Standard Edition version 4 (English)
http://liveupdate.symantec.com/upgrade/N360-ESD-17
Norton 360 Premier Edition version 4 (English)
http://liveupdate.symantec.com/upgrade/N360-PREMIE
You will also need your Norton product key in order to activate Norton 360; during activation, your subscription days will be picked up automatically by Norton 360. You can fetch your product key from your Norton account:
http://www.mynortonaccount.com/
You can also find your product key on the CD sleeve.
During activation, a notification may pop up saying that you have exceeded the number of allowed activations. If this happens, please contact Symantec Customer Support, and they will reset your activations for you. You can chat with them for free over here:

Please tell us how it goes :-)

I guess that means I have to uninstall-reinstall.
The Norton files are still on my computer, even though I did reinstall my OS. The OS just isn't recognising they are there.
I will try this and see what happens....

For a thorough deinstalation, you can run the Norton Removal Tool - provided Norton 360 is the only Norton product on your computer:

Hello AcerBB
The recovery program backed up "my documents" and some programs that I had installed, including my Norton 360.
I have found that back up programs are usually ok for data, but usually the actual programs have to be installed again.

Thanks for pointing that out, floplot :-)

Looks like you are right. I did the uninstall-reinstall thing, and now it is saying "you are protected". Great stuff!
Now if I can only get my wireless connection to work again, I'll be back in business!

Agreed but as I've found out in the last week if you have an image of the drive then everything comes back in full working order so the moral of that is to make an image of your drive when you first get it set up as you want it and then back up files like data files .....
Wonderful to effectively do a full reinstall in a few minutes and even to upgrade to a new larger hard drive and have it boot up.
