I am sure this has been dealt with before but I am frustrated with a capital F
When ever I run live update it takes HOURS to run and then fails.
If I manually install the virus defs it takes a couple of minutes to download a 58MB file and installs in a couple of minutes
WHY does live up date cause such a problem. Incidentally two other things to note. Firstly, when live up date is running it seems to kill my internet connection every now and then. Secondly, I have the same problem with Microsoft - auto update takes hours and fails but manual downloading and installation takes minutes???!!
Anyone got any ideas?

Hi Jltott,
Let us know the version of Norton 360 you use and your Operating System. Also, provide us the complete error message that you get when the LiveUpdate fails. This will help us to understand the problem.

Hello jltott
Have you checked your network settings and do you have a trusted connection? Since this is affecting your windows update also, it may be either a connection problem or a malware problem. Do you have any problems connecting to the web or is this problem just when trying to do various updates.? Can you bring up task manager, command prompt, regedit, run?

Network operates fine, just downloaded 98MB file in 90 secs, no "apparent malware" (ccleaner, spybot, startupinspector ran regularly). Problem just with updates via programs (i.e. live update, windows update, itunes update). yes to all (task manager etc)
Strangely (suggests it is connection based) this is my laptop on wireless connection to internet, have similar problems on my desktop on wired internet connection (both use same router)

Just downloaded and installed new copy of itunes (98MB file) in about 10-15 minutes (installation took most of that) but if you do it through itunes update it takes all day plus? Similar problem with live update.
Error message:
last run of live update ran for 1 hour 20 mins, asked for a reboot and then came up with message saying - "some updates not succesful". Immediate re-run of live update is still running (30mins plus)
Confused

Hello jltott
When you say you are running Spybot, is that with TeaTimer installed and turned on? Do you have any other live time security programs running? What was your previous security program.
Can you try running a full scan with the free version of Malwarebytes and see if that comes up clean? Please post the log back here. The free version will not conflict with your N360 as it is a on demand scanner.
Download the free version, install and update then run a FULL scan. After the scan completes you should post the logs back to this thread.
You can find Malwarebytes here
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_ant
It is a safer location to get the program from than malwarebytes themselves because some malware creators have large lists of sites that they block. Please be careful to down load the correct program ----the FREE version of MALWAREBYTES
(Thanks to Delph for providing the alternative site)
