Malware Problem

The google search on my PC has been hijacked by something.  I am routed to advertising sites.  I have run a complete scan and problem still exists.  What now?  Thanks

Hi Technewbie,

Welcome to Norton Community!

Let us know the version of Norton program you have and your Operating System. Delete the contents of Windows Temporary folder and Temporary Internet files. You can try to download and run Norton Power Eraser tool :

Go for Rootkit Scan and Restart the computer. Check if it detects any threats and if it does, please provide us the filename and other details.

Re: Malware Problem

I have Windows 7 and Norton 360 V5.  I just updated to the V5 and for a few minutes google was working.  But, now I am back to being diverted to sales sites.  I will try what you recommend but doing anything other than sending an email is a stretch for me.  Wish me luck!

Re: Malware Problem

OK I reran Power Eraser (correctly this time) and the following files were marked suspicious:

audioses32.exe

audioses32.dll

werdiaqcontroller

The disclaimers and warnings sent by Power Eraser have me so nervous I am afraid to proceed and fix them.

Shall I proceed and mark them to be fixed?

Thanks

Re: Malware Problem

Hello Technewbie

Please wait till someone comes along who can tell you what to do . Sorry, I am not one who can tell you if it is safe to have it fix your problem. Does the scan show the path of those files? If it does, can you post a screen shot showing what the scan actually showed?

Here are the directions on how to post a screen shot.

Re: Malware Problem

Help I am such a newbie.  Shall I fix the programs listed or pay Norton $100?

Re: Malware Problem

You can fix them, make sure that you select the option to create a restore point before you fix those files. Let us know the results.
