Malware opening random web pages

Windows 7

Norton 360

Firefox browser

Recently, random web pages are being opened automatically so it looks like my laptop has some kind of malware issue but I have run Norton 360 (also tried Ad Aware and Spy Bot) and the issue is still occurring.

I have run HijackThis and the log is attached.

I am struggling with this so any help would be gratefully accepted

Hi stain35,

You may want to download the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free.  Be sure to decline the 15 day trial of the Pro Version as this will clash with Norton.  Please post back with the results.  We may need to dig further.

Thanks,  Dave.

Hi,

Did you tried with any other Browser to surf the internet?

If yes are you having the same problem?

If you didn't tried other browsers, Can you check with some other Browserd like chrome or IE?

Re: Malware opening random web pages

I have temporarily changed my default browser to IE9.

Some time after doing this, I had web pages open in both Firefox and IE9, and a rogue web page was opened in a Firefox window. However, I was browsing within a Firefox web page at the time so cannot be sure whether this had any effect.

I will continue using IE9 for the time being (with no Firefox browser open) and see how that goes.

The issue is these rogue windows are only opening every so often (hours between the last 2 occurrences).

For info, the last rogue window that opened was for a site called AdultFriendFinder. Others had urls that could not be resolved.

Hi stain35,

After doing a google search on your problem,  I have found other people have had success by,  as SUBASH has stated,  un-installing,  then re-installing Firefox.  Please make sure you download from http://www.mozilla.org .  Let us know how this goes.

Thanks,  Dave.
