1- A new version of Norton 360 just came out, which means that the next one is about a year away
2- IE8 came out of Beta today; it will shortly be the most popular browser in the world
3- I just ended a chat session with a tech support, who said that the Norton toolbar is only compatible with IE 6 and 7
4- He said that we would have to wait until the next version of Norton 360 to have compatiblity with IE8.
This can't be true. Does anyone know the status of the toolbar?

I've upgraded to IE 8 today - and empirically ascertained that the Norton toolbar is compatible and fully functional.
Im fact, I'm writing this from IE 8, after I logged in using Identity Safe.
My browser identification string:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/4.0; iOpus-I-M; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; FDM; InfoPath.2; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30618; OfficeLiveConnector.1.3; OfficeLivePatch.0.0; WWTClient2)

Thanks!
Still, it would be nice to have some feedback from Symantec about this issue...

Yes the Norton Toolbar is compatible and fully functional, I had the IE8 RC1 installed before installing Norton 360 and there was no problems.
However, I must warn you, the Norton One-Click Support window will hang, thus preventing you from contacting support staff, if you have IE8 installed. I read somewhere that the Norton staff are working on fixing this issue in a future update, but for now it is recommended to stick with IE7 (which has no problems with Norton at all).
Other than that IE8 and Norton are pretty much compatible.

Hi
just ran Norton One-Click Support (with IE8) mine seems to work fine, no hang up etc.

Bagpus,
Interesting, I had a notion that it might be fixed since i read about that issue a week or two ago.
Anyway, thanks for confirming it, I'll install IE8 right now.

Thanks Tony!
You can't imagine how great it feels to have some quick and direct feedback from a large company like Symantec. Just that makes it worth recommending the company's products (which I actuallly do on a regular basis now that you went light on resources).
But back to business. The beta has been out for a while now, and if I recall correctly we were told that Symantec declined to talk about compatibility until IE8 came out of beta. So I think it's fair to say that it feels like a let down to reach that point and be told that Symantecis not there yet. I for one, thought that Symantec was ready but only waited for the final code to say that it supported IE8.
Anyway. People used to say that Symantec was the worst resource hog in the known universe. You killed that hog, and it's great. I smell bacon now...
Thanks.

Hi all,
I´ve got N360v3 installed and am using the released version of IE8 at this moment when writting this reply.
This installation has been working as expected the last 4 to 5 days.
The Norton Toolbar has supported me when signing in to this forum today.
I can´t find any issues at all so far.
My OS is Vista Business SP1.

<< ... it feels like a let down to reach that point and be told that Symantec is not there yet. >>
It's not necessarily that Symantec is not there yet but that I'm sure they don't want to say there will be no problems until they have time to check out what Microsoft actually RTW. Microsoft have a deserved reputation of not being completely open with their "partners" and of making changes at the last moment without telling anyone.
I much prefer a delay in being told all is OK than a rush to announce what is not yet shown to be. There'll be enough problems to go round that Microsoft haven't dealt with <g>
