I have been working with Mozy, trying to get the backup working. It stopped working and the Mozy tech. says it's because of Norton. I've been trying to prove whether Norton is causing it.
I turned off Norton backup and that doesn't seem to change anything. Mozy still fails.
Any ideas?
Mozy told me to turn off Norton and try it but I really don't know how to stop Norton.

Hi,
I'm not familiar with Mozy. Bat can you tell me, is it a backup program that uses online storage space or does it backup your files to an extrnal / HDD / CD location?
If the first, please check the Firewall -> Program Rules settings, and change Mozy's rule to Allow.
If the second, try to turn Auto-Protect temporarely, then try a backup with Mozy.
Let us know the results.

Yes, it's a backup program that uses online storage. I wanted off-site storage for my photos.
It also backs up to a local external drive.
I don't understand "change Mozy's rule to Allow". Do you mean to change Norton's rule to allow Mozy? If so, I've looked into that and it's confusing. Here is what I can find concerning Mozy in the Firewall area:
Under Firewall Program Rules, there is an entry called "MozyHome Online Backup Service bootstapper".
The entry says "Allow, Direction: Outbound, Computer: Any Communications: Specific, Protocol: TCP and UDP"
I am changing the Direction: Outbound to Direction: In/Out
I'm changing to see if that fixes the problem.

Yes, this one would be the one that should be checked (I think...).
If it still do not works, try this:
1. Find the Norton icon by the system tray, where the system clock is located
2. Right click on it
3. Click on Disable Smart Firewall
4. Set a duration, like 15 minutes
5. Click OK
6. Test Mozy
If this way Mozy works, than it is the Norton firewall what's blocking it.
Let us know the results.

Hello
I think that Mozy also is always running in the background. Perhaps there is some conflict with that action also. Perhaps you can check to see if the service is still turned on for Mozy.
Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Mozy is blaming Norton for not running. Is there any way to stop Norton 360 or must I uninstall it to stop it. I need to find out if Norton is causing the problem with Norton or not.
Thanks

Did you tried turning Off the firewall as I wrote in my previos post? You can do the same with Auto-Protect as well.
Let us know what happens.

As per the following article from Mozy, you may need to add MozyProBackup.exe and MozyProBackup.exe to the Program Rules in Firewall and set it as Allow Always.
