I have the latest version of Norton 360 ... My PC is very high spec with a fast ssd drive ... With the previous version of Norton 360 v6.0.4 or what ever it was I could start the PC from cold and be surfing the internet within 30 seconds with Norton and everything else started and running .
Since the update to the new version this start up time has doubled at least and I can't do anything until the Norton icon shows in the task bar near the clock .
I have used msconfig to check nothing strange is happening on start up but everything was as it was before so why is this new Norton killing my start up times ..... Is there a setting I've missed in Norton... I wish I had just stayed with Norton 360 v6.0.4 or what ever it was before this new one
Anyone had similar issue .... Oh and I did uninstall using NRT and re-installed but its just the same .
Wont be re-newing my subscription at this rate ......

Hi,
The delay is due to a new boot scan that is being run before everything else loads as part of the improved protection against 'nasties' that try to hide in those deep dark corners.
When you do make the change be sure to run the NOrton Removal Tools before you attempt to install your new security product. Failing to do that will mostlikely cause conflicts and reduce the degree of protection provided by the new product
Stay well and surf safe. We'll be here when you need us

So this new Norton is deliberately killing my start up times ??? ..... I don't get it .
All my other system icons and desktop start but the Norton icon in the task bar doesn't come on until last and its only then that I can use the PC .
Seems a step backwards to slow everything down ?

Hi,
It may seem that way but it is the only way to scan the system before things load to prevent rootkits and other 'nasties' from slipping in under the protection being provided. Somestimes the proce of protection is to walk a bit slower at the beginning. Consider walking into a minefield before you consult the map showing the safe path.![]()

If you're using Norton 360 2013 (20.1.1.2) this is a known bug:

Thanks for the link .... I have done the " fix" below and its showing the icon instantly again .
Poor show from Norton though to release an update that causes more problems .
Set Windows Font Cache Service from Automatic (delay started) to Automatic. (Use RMK (right mouse button) > Properties when you have selected Windows Font Cache Service). That is all, and costs no more than a second.

You're welcome.
Just a note: It isn't really recommended to change the default Windows' services because it may / can cause other problems.

I wasn't happy with the fix for this problem I'm also having with my system so I spent 3 hours letting Rathna Kumar Jaya Krishnan from India troubleshoot the problem. He did everything he could have done to try and blame the problem on something else. He did a full uninstall/reinstall, updated my graphics driver to an OLDER version, messed with my startup delays. Finally after several callbacks and collecting of log files he agreed that there was indeed a problem. He left a message on my phone that stated there would be an update tomorrow. So I guess we'll see what happens.
