Norton 360 5.0 installation

I'm trying to install N360 5.0 on a Win7 machine.  It doesn't seem to get past "initializing," which I've let run for 45 minutes two times.  What do I do now?

Hi,

1) Did you had anyother Norton Product installed in your machine before trying to install Norton 360 5.0?

Hello jspen9

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

Did your computer come with a pre installed security program? If it did, was this other security program completely removed? Do you have any other real time security program running? Thanks.

Re: Norton 360 5.0 installation

1. Log on to Safe Mode with networking.

2. Download and run the Norton Removal Tool as mentioned in the link that Yogesh provided.

3. Install the Norton product.

4. Log on to normal mode.

Re: Norton 360 5.0 installation

(1) I had N360 5.0 but it had expired, so I bought a new copy to restore the protection.

(2) After it kept hanging up at "initializing," I uninstalled N360 via Windows Uninstaller.  N360 seemed to install OK until reboot, but after that there was no sign N360 actually installed, my CD drive was dead, & numerous other programs (MS Word, Quicken, TurboTax, Firefox etc etc) would not start.  (Fortunately, IE & Chrome do still work.)

(3) I then tried the Norton Removal Tool.  It stopped when it detected Norton Utilities & said I had to uninstall that via Windows Uninstaller first.  I tried that, but Win Uninstaller couldn't find an uninstall file & wouldn't proceed further.

(4) I've been a Norton user for more than 20 years, but this experience may force me to stop.  The 360 installer should have recognized a common situation & handled it gracefully.  I'm afraid I'll have to re-install Windows & all my other programs.  Very frustrating.

Hello jspen9

Is it possible that your computer got infected after the program expired? Actually, all you had to do was put in the new key into the expired program if it was the same type of N360
