In a thread entitled “Norton 360 v2 Backup – Take 2” which ran from June 3 to June 11, user jszabo and Symantec Employee adam_schleps discussed the problem of Norton 360 scanning the system and setting archive bits on files. The problem was never resolved with the user saying, “The archive bits are still being set. Can we set up the live meeting you mentioned?” The thread has since been locked.
Since installing version 188.8.131.52 of Norton 360, I have been having the same problem. Archive bits are being randomly set all over my hard drive. I don’t want to use the backup feature of Norton 360 and have set it to manual and disabled it. Using other software, I do daily incremental backups based on the archive bits. As jszabo noted, none of the suggestions offered by Adam seem to work to turn off the bit setting.
Was this issue ever resolved? What is the solution?

I did solve the issue that jszabo was having. I did so by sending him a custom program that made backup ignore everything so no archive bits were ever set. I will contact you here with my information to send the same program. Additionally, I am happy to report for you that N360 v3.0 will no longer utilize the archive bit.

i was going to send it to you via email since its not an actual symantec support tool. that is why i sent you a private message here (look in the upper right hand corner) and gave you my symantec email address. mail me there and i'll reply w/ the tool.

I'm seeing the archive bit issue as well (360 v184.108.40.206). Can you send me a pointer program that provides the fix? (Is there any way you can post a link to it in this forum? Seems that might save you a lot of interrupts.)
