Re: Norton 360 is broken

Do you happen to have another defragmenter installed? Like PerfectDisk, Diskeeper, or some such program? I have seen this error when the user has another defragmenter as well, which can cause conflicts.

There might be a fault on the drive that is stopping the defrag/optimizer from working.

I'd suggest that you open file manager -- WINKEY + E is a nice shortcut -- and right mouse click on the icon for your C: drive.

Then select Properties and Tools TAB

On the Tools TAB the upper item is Error Checking so click on the Button Check Now which will open up a screen with two check boxes the upper one is already checked; leave the second one unchecked and click on START

This will then tell you it can't do this because the drive is in use (it most likely has your Windows on it if you have more than one hard drive) and that it will do so when you next restart the computer.

I forget if it has a Restart Now or not but OK your way out and restart your computer.

As it boots up it will go and check Drive C: for file and other errors that might be stopping the optimization.

If that does not fix the problem please come back and tell us and we can move on from there.

Re: Norton 360 is broken

DavidThomas88, That's last thing i would do!

Bombastus, Yes i have Diskeeper! What do you sugest?

huwyngr, That didn't do anything. Just wasted 20 minutes of waiting to analyze hdd for errors!

I'm still stuck with notification shown in first picture!

v0id,

Sorry but when you are troubleshooting negative results are the most valuable thing you can get.

Be grateful lthat thare are no errors on your hard drive because it will fail and if there are errors it will be sooner and Norton can't do anything about it.

Since you have Diskkeeper follow suggestions on that -- I used to have it but discontinued ages ago because it was a resource hog. There's very little benefit from defragging on modern systems with current file systems and the way hard drives work with massive caches and intelligent queuing.

But none of that is saying that you don't have an annoying problem for which I'm sure there is a solution .... it might even be to reinstall!

Good luck.

Re: Norton 360 is broken

If the problem reoccurs, you should disable the disk optimization in Norton 360. What it does is call on the Windows defragementer to run it and defragment the disk, which is the same thing Diskkeeper does continuously. The error was probably because of a conflict between these two. And Diskeeper is the program that does the job the best.
