After upgrading from Norton 360 v5.2 to v6, I found I had a new icon on my desktop called ''Norton Download Manager'', when I try to open it nothing (NOTHING) happens, and if I try to delete it I recieve this message; ''Could not find this item. This is no longer located in C:\Users\(User name)\Desktop. Verify the item's location and try again''. I have searched high and low on my computer but not ''found'' this file. I don't even know why I need to find it to delete a shortcut. Could anyone with knowlede of this issue be kind enough to help me out? It annoys me to no end having things on my computer that don't do anything or are broken.
Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help me out!

Welcome,
Sounds like the icon for a temporary file didn't delete when the program was removed. Just delete the icon and forget that it was there - at least until you download the next version of 360 when it might appear again. If you need someone to blame - it's all my fault
I'm even less perfect than the computer.
Stay well and surf safe

Use windows explorer to get to: C:\Users\(User name)\Desktop, and delete it from there. If it's not present look under:
C:\Users\Public\Desktop

Thanks for your reply Dick, but that's just the problem. The icon on my desktop refuses to delete, when I try to I recieve the error message stated above and dragging it to the recycling bin just makes it snap back to its original spot. It seems the file that it was a shortcut for is gone, and when I check in my desktop folder it doesn't say it's there, even though it's right there mocking me. And don't blame yourself, even though it IS all your fault! ![]()
EDIT: Tried your idea Dave, it wasnt under public desktop or user desktop, thanks though!

It's not really Dicks fault. We are not Symantec employees, we are just unpaid slave laborers.
When you right click on it and select properties, can you click the "general" tab and find anything listed under "location"?

Tried that, it said it was under C:\Users\(Username)\Desktop, but it's not there when i go to the folder mentioned; although neither are alot of things on my desktop. Maybe there's something filtering out many of the files? I can't wrap my mind around why...

That other folder I mentioned has replaced the "All User" folder in previous versions of windows.
Anything placed in the Public\Desktop folder will appear on the desktop of every user on the system. The items in "your" desktop folder only show up for your profile. Everything on your desktop should also appear in one of those 2 folders.
It's possible there may be some hidden files and you might need to change your view settings to see them but that wouldn't make any sense since if they were hidden you wouldn't see them in the first place.
Click the start button and in the search box type: cmd
then press enter. The command box will open up at the prompt: C:\Users\(Username>
Type: cd desktop
then type: dir
Let us know if it shows up in the list.
Also, we are assuming you have rebooted since you first tried to delete it and you have tried right clicking on the desktop and selecting "refresh" a couple times.

Dave, thanks for your help, my issue is solved!
Skipping ahead to the last paragraph of your last post, I had indeed rebooted my computer several times, to no avail. Refreshing the desktop by right clicking on it and selecting ''Refresh'' did the trick! It also removed a few other shortcuts, but those I simply replaced. Still dont know why it never refreshed when I rebooted, but that's not important.
Thanks again, Dave!
